Memory Replacement Question

Hey,

I have two Corsair CM2X1024-6400 (XMS2-6400) at 1GB each. They're the 800MHz version.

I had problems with crashes, and eventually ran the windows memory test in DOS. One of sticks was fine, the other failed all over the place.

I've found on Newegg.com what I think is the replacement (click me).

Everything looks the same, except the CAS timings.

The stick I have is : 5-5-5-12, the stick specs according to Newegg site are : 5-5-5-18.

Will this be a correct replacement? Will the slightly different CAS timings make a difference? I imagine they may have newer chips (mine is about 9 months old now).

Hi BigWinston, I'm not an expert on memory but I am 99.9 percent sure you'll be fine. Hopefully someone can back me up.

I wouldn't personally buy that RAM. $27 per GB is too much to pay for DDR2 these days. On top of that, it specifies 1.9V for operation at 5-5-5-18, which is pretty sorry.

I would get something more like this:

It's rated for operation at 1.8V, which is the official standard, and it's pretty nicely priced at $35 after rebate.
