Building a new E6600, GA-965P-S3 system. Mostly gaming and some slight overclocking (I'm not a huge overclocker).

Can you guys in all your infinite wisdom recommend DDR2 800 sticks that are fast and most importantly won't give me a bunch of weird issues. Was leaning toward OCZ Gold however some things I've read they seem to be picky with several Motherboards.

Thanks.

I need this info as well. I would like 2GB kit for <$250 if possible (I know that is asking a lot)

I just put a system together with the s3 board, for a friend. I picked the A-data viesta memory 667, based on anandtech's review and because it was 1.8 volt. System booted up with no issues, it's been running for about 2 days. The egg has this memory for about $107 a gig, $113 for the ddr2 800 stuff. Hope this helps.

I had an eye on that myself. It looks like their 2GB pack is what I will be after. Thanks!

I built an Intel system using the Intel DP965LT Board. Same chipset as your board and it is very picky about the ram it will take. Intel has a page where they list tested memory for that chipset and I decided to go with 2 gigs of the 1.8 V Kingston DDR2-800 (KVR800D2N5K2). Pricey though. I got it at Newegg for $323.99 but it fired right up at 800 and is stable as a rock. Built with Micron chips but I checked the Crucial site and their approved ram, using the same micron chip, was even more expensive.

Hope this helps.

I couldn't get the ADATA 800 2 x 1G past 410 ... ( very loose timings ) .. I now Have 4 x 512 Corsair TWIN2X1024A-6400 running at 415 .. Works like a hose..

P.S. I have the DS3.. Don't know if it matters..

I hope "works like a hose" is a good thing!

I'm building a C2D with a DS3 and 2 x 512mb sticks of Corsair TWIN2X1024A-6400 to start. I'll probably add a couple more sticks in Q1 of 2007.

I have a 1 GB stick of this running in a new build on a S3 board no problems. Overclocking on the ram looks promising too, although I haven't had time to run extensive testing on it.

Look into the Gskills CL4 2GB kit (rated at 800 MHz 4-4-4-12). I got these when they were on sale during Thanksgiving - 200 buckaroo... Booted up with DS3 F6 on first try (1.8V at 5-5-5-15). Changed voltage to the correct 2.0 volts (1.8 is too low for the tighter timing and I forgot if 1.9 worked) and I'm now running it at 400 MHz 1:1. I've read on Egg that other people had good success overclocking these (i personally don't care since 400 1:1 means 2.8 GHz on 6300 which is good enough for me).

Also just check Newegg. There are many choices now for 2 GB either at 667 or 800 that will work great for under 250.

I'm using A-DATA Vitesta 2x1GB DDR2 800 in my S3 with E6300 and they run fine at stock speed & voltage. I haven't tried running them any higher than 800 yet.

When I bought them when they were much cheaper at $207 shipped. You may find better sticks available for what the A-DATA sticks now cost.

Do NOT get Kingston's DDR2 PC6400 800Mhz 2x1GB (Model Number: KVR800D2K2/2GR) got these at Fry's for $199.99 as a substitute for similar spec OCZ brand memory that was out of stock.

I have the same MB as you. Tried to install fresh new copy of windows XP... took a few tries to finally get thru the installation w/o any error msg. Random restarts during usage. Reformat comp again with an ordinary DDR2 533mhz 512Mb RAM, installation was competely fine w/o error msg.

Strangely, I could not even find any info for this memory on Kingston's website, and Google search yielded nothing useful. It seems almost as if I'm the only person in this world who's actually tried this RAM. If anyone has some info regarding this RAM or how to get it to work with GA-965P-S3, perhaps with some MB tweaks, please post it here. Thanx alot. :)
