Memory reccommendations I need..

I bow before the power of the forum in asking for help.

Can anyone give me memory recommendations for the DVD266-R? I have just been unable to get it too work correctly with 1)Unregistered CAS2 Samsung 2)Unregisted CAS2.5 Corsair. Both 256MB sticks. Two of each.

Help. Me. Please.

What is your hardware config? Are you installing the memory at the same time? What kind of problems are you encountering? More info please.

My hardware config:

Iwill DVD266-R
2 PIII 733
The RAM
3dfx Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP
Network Card (DEC)
Maxi Sound Fortissimo
Maxtor 14GB drive
HP CDWrite 8100
Mitsumi 32x CDRom

I have tried several configurations with the memory, including:
- 1 from each (ie mixed) - doesn't work
- 2 from one (ie same) - unstable
- just one module - works
- 3 modules - yeah right, i wish
- 4 modules - it MIGHT boot, maybe if I was god.

Thanks.

Ah, and yes, problems.

Stability: Over 1 stick (256MB) runs not-so-stably. Memory dumps under NT 4 are common, and of course, as I stated in an earlier thread, Win2K doesn't install. In fact, 2K doesn't install no matter WHAT I do.

With just one stick, the problems seem to be less, however, they fail to disappear. Burn a CD, open explorer, memory dump. Copy files, memory dump. Blue screens of death are never pretty.

With 4 sticks, and forcing CAS 2 through the BIOS, the bootup screen doesn't show, and I get continuous long beeps (memory not inserted correctly sound error). 3 sticks, will show startup screen, won't get past memory check (ie stops at 512MB). 2 sticks, anytime I DO get it to run, on reboot gives me continuous long beeps.

I mean, is it just me?

Thanks.

The review of this mobo here at Anandtech says that memory incompatibilty is the only issue they have with this excellent board. Furthermore, it states that Samsung doesn't work so they used Corsair unbuffered, registered to make it work. Also, they suggest you make certain that your ram appears in the compatibilty list at IWill, I hope this helps.

I don't mean to be crass, but how can one get memory that's unbuffered AND registered? Corsair to the best of my knowledge only offers unbuffered for the Iwill board.

you are correct sir, that's my bad, it doesn't say that anywhere in the review now that I've read it again.😱

One other thing to consider is your PSU. If you're running dually, especially if you OC... it might also be the culprit.
