Memory / RAM testing

Is the testing of memory (RAM) say with memtest have any relationship to
the integrity of the computer hard drive, i.e. isn't testing of memory completely
independent of the systems hard drive info ?

Thanks.

test completely independent to HDD..

possibly has some impact with cpu.. but not that much....
Basically the system writes data to ram, and reads it.
Then compares if there is any faults or errors to the data written and read.

So it has almost no impact on HDD, unless your HDD is corrupt and gives out wrong data to write and compare.

Ie.. bad USB drive with memtest.

Thanks for your thoughts. But it was my impression that data written is generated by Memtest and has
no relations to what may be on hard drive.

And checked ISO image of Linux Mint and was OK, however I don't know if that would necessarily
include the Memtest portion, but would think it would.

Might try ISO image and Memtest on DVD and see what happens here.

Thanks.

well i was referring to if your memtest application was actually corrupted, and it was running a corrupted source from the beginning..

lol...

Memtest was run from the very same source, first time showed all kind of errors, second time showed zero errors after 3 full passes.

Memtest is version found on Linux Mint install ISO image.

So at this point, I have no idea as to why errors were shown during very first run of Memtest.

Thanks.
