Memory Question

Hello all, just joined. This is my first post so be patient. Thanks everyone for the help I have received from viewing this forum. Question is: After upgrading my computer (see sig for details) and overclocking 2.3 (230x10) ram 2.5-2-2-1t in slots 3 & 4, Prime stable for 12 hrs, Mem test good, computer seems stable, but Windows xp info only reports 512 ram. During boot up it reports dual channel. I switched ram to slots 1 & 2, now Windows reports 1G ram, but system very very unstable. If I leave ram in slots 3 & 4, am I just using 512?

Have you tried slots 1 and 2 at default factory rated speeds?

I have not tried factory settings in slots 1 & 2, but Mem test good. I have not tried Prime in slots 1 & 2, but am sure it would fail quickly.

Okay, I am very frustrated....I am stable at stock settings on slots 1 & 2. I've tried various overclockings and the best I can get with RAM in slots 1 & 2 is 2.16 at 1:1. I can clock a little bit higher about 2.25 at 1:1 in RAM slots 3 & 4. During boot up BIOS reports dual channel but in RAM slots 3 & 4 Windows xp only reports 512, but in slots 1 & 2 windows reports 1G. I have two sticks of 512. Why is Windows only reporting 512 in slots 3 & 4??? Am I only using 512?
Also, when testing CPU, clocking down memory to take it out of the picture, I had hit 2.4 stable. When testing RAM with lower multiplier to take CPU out of the picture, I can get 2.4 stable at 2.5-2-2-10. Why can I only get 2.16 stable at 1:1 with 10x multiplier. Am I doing something wrong or is this all I can get out of my system?

Just curious, why are you trying so hard to get the RAM to stay in slots 3/4? Is there a benefit in doing this over just leaving them in 1/2?

I can get a little more overclock out of 3 & 4. Not much though. Just wonder why windows only reports 512 when bios reports 1G and Mem86 reports 1G.
