Memory question - kinda overclocking question

I have an AMD Asus A8N-VM CSM motherboard with an Opteron 170, AMD's standard HSF, and PQI 2GB (2x1GB - PQI3200-2048DB). The memory is rated at 3-3-3-8. I've gotten it to work at 2-3-2-5 without any problems.

My question is if I don't plan to overclock my processor, would changing these values improve my performance... or should I just stick with the default memory settings?

It's not a huge difference, I'd try running memtest86 on it with the tighter timings. I guess if it works without any problems, why not?
