Memory Ques. EDO DIMMS vs SDRAM DIMMS

Are they supposed to fit in the same slot? I have a bunch of OEM IBM EDO DIMMS (FRU:42H2780) and they dont seem to fit into regular DIMMS slots.... Like the notches are a little offset. Is this normal/standard for EDO DIMMS??

They won't fit because EDO dimms are 72 pins while sdram dimms are 168 pins.

i think its normal... my uncle gave me a EDO Dimm I had no idea what to do with, because it would not fit for the life of it into by BH6's RAM slots.

Yes, EDO DIMMs (168 pin) do have their notches a little offset....IIRC they run at a different voltage...5 volts as opposed to 3.3 in standard SDRAM.

ya andy, thats exactly why they wont fit/are offset .. different voltage .. now the question, is why would you want to put those edo dimms in ur board, even if they did fit? .. =) .. well spring for some real sdram and have fun ..

Assuming u mean would you want to put them in a SDRAM board? I doubt that it would do harm because it's not like the mobo would be fryed, opposed to if u threw a 3.3v SDRAM DIMM into a 5v EDO DIMM slot............

MisterNi: Watch for the wording. SIMMs are 72 pin, DIMMs are 168 pin.

EDO RAM comes as both SIMMs and DIMMs. SDRAM comes in DIMMs only.

what .. what i meant was, why would you want to use slow edo memory, when the board accepts sdram .. eh still dont understand any of that, but cool ..
