memory/processor speeds/fsb

Okay, can anyone point me twords a chart or something that will show me what type of memory to use for each different fsb speed. I'm seeing (for memory) 2700,2100,3200 AND 333mhz 266mhz. and on processors I'm seeing "oh it's 200mhz but it's 800mhz at the same time.

To be precise I have a celeron-d with a 533fsb and need to know the minimum memory "type " to run at the 533 processor FSB.

It would really help if there was a chart or general application or formula that could tell me which types go with what type of fsb...

Also, keep in mind that I do realize I could just get some 3200 type memory and not have to worry about the minimum. But I want to know what the minimum is.

Related question - where are the major breaks in what memory will work in what computer? For example, I know DDR2 won't work in a machine configured for DDR. But will PC3200 work in a machine that originally had PC 133?

PC3200 = DDR400 = 200mhz FSB (run in a system with 800mhz FSB processor)
PC2700 = DDR333 = 166mhz FSB (run in a system with 533mhz FSB processor)
PC2100 = DDR266 = 133mhz FSB (run in a system with 266mhz FSB processor)

The "minimum" speed ram you can run in a system is it's native matching number above. However, you can always run slower memory, with downgraded performance of course.

In addition, if you want to overclock your processor, it's recommended that you get faster ram than your processor is spec'd at.

Anyway, for a 533mhz chip I'd get PC2700 if you don't plan on overclocking, PC3200 if you do.

jamesz42 - PC133 is a different type of ram altogether. Different slot, timings, etc. You need to replace with PC133 or get a different motherboard to run DDR memory.
