I'm building a new system. It's a Biostar M7VIG with a AMD 1900+ processor. I have 2 sticks of Crucial memory. They are CAS2 (CL=2) sticks (part number CT64M64S4D7E.16LT).

The BIOS is only seeing 256 meg of memory, but there is 1024 installed. I'm guessing it's related to the CAS2, but I'm lost.

BTW,
I have reseated both sticks. tried one and then the other. Sees the same amount of memory either way.

I've reloaded the failsafe also.

both are 512mb sticks.

Any ideas?

Your motherboard may not support that memory type although that does not seems to be a problem with newer boards now. I'd contact the manufacturer and bitch at them a bit. Also, you might want to try updating your BIOS.

hmmm ... what happens if you install just one of these sticks?

Give the board its latest BIOS, there is no Athlon-XP chipset that doesn't support DIMMs of that size, physically. Then, no matter what brand they are, the DIMMs might well be defective.

First I would try just one stick and see if it recognizes it correctly.

Try updating your BIOS to the latest version.
