Memory problem with Biostar Tforce 6100-939

I have a new Tforce 6100-939 board with 2 X 1gb sticks of Corsair XMS TWINX memory.

The system will only boot if the memory is installed in dim slots "B1" and "B2". I get the long error beep if install any memory (1 or both sticks) in slots "A1" or "A2".

BTW this is running an Athlon 64 3200+.


So what this means is I can't run the memory in dual channel. I can only run it in the last two slots in single channel mode. Is this RAM not compatible to run dual channel in this board? Or does it sound like the board needs to be RMA'd?

Go in and set the memory timings in manual mode, and use "2t" for the command rate, or whatever the bios names it. Try the memory at 200 or 166 if overclocking. If you don't know what your memory is rated at, just use the same settings as spd, but definately use 2t for command rate. I had to set my venice memory manually to get it to run at 200 with all 4 dimm slots filled.

Since you can't boot with even 1 stick installed in those slots, it doesn't sound like a dual-channel issue at all. It sounds like DIMM slots A1 and A2 are both faulty. You should probably contact the manufacturer and see what they say, or RMA the board.

That's what I was afraid of.

The command rate is set for 2T, all the timing settings are right, etc. It simply won't boot with ANY setting if I install the sticks in either of the first 2 slots.

Biostar website, here I come.

What I often see, with budget built or with built that had integrated video is cheap PSU.

What do you have as PSU?

Why would this give me a memory error in only two slots? Slots 3-4 work fine.

Well I figured out that if I install a stick into slot 1 or 2 and jiggle it a little it will at least boot up for a minute - then it fails again. Definately the slots are bad.
