I bought a AMD CPU X4 925/Biostar 790 GX A3+ MB combo from Frys picked up some ram temporary locally 2x2GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333 till my 2x2GB RipJaws DDR3 1333 arrived from Newegg and was going to return the XMS3 15 day return policy and go with the low cost better timing RJ's. Computer worked great no problem for 3 days everything I threw at it. I get the RipJaws today all happy install it in my computer won’t even boot. I tried reseating each stick and tried each stick also no boot. G. Skill also shows this memory as approved for my MB as I checked before I ordered it. The Biostar MB leds also show code memory error when the RJ's are in. I put the Corsair XMS3 back in computer runs excellent.

What would you do or what other memory would you suggest?
I really don’t want to chance another RipJaw set.

Corsair XMS3 9-9-9-24--paid---- $136.00
RipJaws 7-7-7-21-- paid shipped--$109.00

Memory Voltage? What's the spec from G Skill?
Did you try the looser timings?

Hi Bill thanks for helping.

Below is a link below for the G.Skill ram (product page) I have which is 1.5V. The computer won’t even boot to get into the bios. The monitor just stays blank can't even get to the timing with the RJ's in. My Biostar MB bios defaults to timing of 9-9-9-24 from what I read even if the ram is faster. You have to go in manually config or set for faster timing on any ram faster than 9-9-9-24 so that shouldn’t be it and I can’t even in the Bios with the RJ’s in. The Corsair I am running when in is at 9-9-9-24 at 1.5V.

This is what’s on the RJ’s memory package the ram came in
F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH
DDR3 1333 PC3-10666

Same info ^^^ on the sticks of the also but with the timing 7-7-7-21 & 1.5V

G. Skill Product page of the ram I have.

G. Skill RJ’s I purchase from Newegg link.

Update & found what I believe is a good deal.

Well I tried according to some research.

Unplug PS
Clear CMSO
Wait 5 sec
Put only 1 stick of RJ's in and boot no boot.
Tried the other stick no boot.
So I am rma the RJ's back to Newegg no restocking and they sent me a prepaid shipping label which was painless.

So decided to try 2x2GB OCZ DDR3 1333 7-7-7-20 $90.00 shipped AR from NewEgg some guys are getting these settings stable at 1.5 (even 1.45V) vs the 1.65 rated by OCZ. One guy under reviews has the exact same MB as me so I am hopinhg should be a good chance I should be good with this ram. If for some crazy luck both these OCZ sticks don't work I am keeping my expensive $136.00 Corsair DDR3 XMS3 1333 9-9-9-24. 🙂

You just buy components to run for a short time, then return them?

I haven't built a computer since my last one 5 yrs ago. The CPU/MB combo sale was ending and it was the last MB they had left so I needed some ram to test the MB as I would not be able to get another MB if bad and would have to return the whole CPU/MB combo together. They would not substitute another MB if the combo one was bad. So I asked if I could check the MB by buying the Combo, CPU and their ram (expensive slower ram than I wanted) if its fine just return the ram and they said yes within 15 days. I needed to know quick that the MB (last one in stock) was fine as they had a different combo sale going on that was ending in 2 days I would of had to go with if this MB was bad.

Update

Well I give up 🙂

So I get the OCZ ram install it computer boots right up. I run check CPUID shows 1066 - 533.4 mhz 9-7-7-16. I run WEI 7.5, run memtest passed.

One thing I noticed different right off the Corasair was CPUID at 1333 -667mhz on boot up (auto ram bios setting) but not the OCZ. So I go into the bios one stick at a time set the Ram 1.5 to 1.65v manual change the setting from 1066 to 1333 computer hangs on boot up both sticks then I try the timings manual also hangs on boot got into Windows one time but not stable.

Here what I changed and tried.

Ram V1.6-1.75 with just changing the Ram setting from 1066-1333 everything else on auto.

Then along with the above.
Cas-----7----8--etc
TRCD----7----8--etc
TRP-----7----8--etc
TRAS----20---2x---etc

I don't think there is anything else to change to make the OCZ work so I just going to keep the Corsair Ram not in cards for me to get faster ram. The Corsair autos detcts to the correct 1333 (OCZ would not) but with slower stock rated timings of 9-9-9-24, passed memtest and computer runs perfectly stable. Either my MB is picky or I am just unlucky with faster timing ram. So Corsair is back in and I know Blain is smiling. 🙂

On a side note I bought the 925 X4 & TA 790GX combo for $129.00 ar and just saw MC had the X4 965BE $179.00 & a free MB thinking I could ebay the free MB for $40-50$ & I saw Newegg has the 965BE for $179.00 shipped another option both 125w. I don't upgrade often my last built system (AMD 3400+,NF3 & GF 6800 🙂) I had for 5 years. So I threw my X4 925 on e-bay for $110.00 with shipping to see if it would sell. Sold today within 10 hours of listing it.I realy didn't think or know it would sell as it is used and that quick on top of it when new ones are only around $15-20.00 more on bay. So going with the 965BE kind of like it for C3, just higher stock mhz, unlocked, easy 3.6-3.8 oc DTR what made me try ebay on my 925.
