Memory Problem on a Soyo Dragon Plus?

I'm building a new computer and I got the Soyou Dragon Plus AMD Socket-A VIA KT266A ATX Motherboard. I installed all the hardware and everything, and when I boot it up, the monitor screen is blank, and I hear long repetitive beeps of some sort. I consulted my mobo manual and it said that the long beep means a memory problem of some short. I have 2x256 DRR RAM and I don't see why it's not working. Both sticks are inserted properly to the best of my knowledge, so I have no idea what the problem is. Any suggestions? Anything would be helpfull, thanks! =)

Start with the basics; try 1 stick closest to the CPU, and see what happens.

Didn't work.

Also, in the manual, it says DIMM 1 is the farthest from the CPU, not the closest...

Either way, I've tried both and no luck in either attempts.

Any other suggestions?

what kind/brand of ram ?

it must be NON ECC and unbuffered....2100 DDR (not 1600)...

256MB 32x64 PC2100 DDR Memory (266Mhz)

I have 2 sticks of that.

Nothing that supports DRR RAM, nope...

well it could just be a bad board, i have two dragon+'s and on one of 'em i think the onboard nic is bad, going to contact soyo about it today

Does it continue to boot up or does it crash after the Beep series? I know that this motherboard beeps more than your average board, but some of it is normal.

how long are the beeps? i have 4 beeps on boot but they are short and quick

They were like 2 seconds and continuous every 7 seconds.

I got it working with one stick now

I'll try to see if it will work with the other stick later.

I had two of those boards bad in a row. Mine would not start up at all though. The two I had I think had bad South Bridge chips because the NIC, Sound and none of the PCI slots would work when I finally did get it to power up. I wound up getting my money back and going with the Abit KR7A-Raid. Very nice board too but missing some of the add-on stuff of the Soyo like the Smart Card reader. The Abit does support ATA-133 Raid though. Good luck with it.

As soon as you turn on the computer, hold down the "insert" key and keep it held down till u see something on the screen.
