Memory plays tricks on you - Too bloody right it does But that's not all !

This is strange. Last week my puter packed up and wouldn't post. Second time it did that and last time a new heatsink and fan for cpu did the trick after everything else had been tried and i was about to think cpu and/or mobo had died.
Another non posting situation arose at the end of this week, but last night I took a final try and decided to replace the memory ( I had reseated it during previous week in trying to solve this ). I had a spare stick of 256 SDRAM 133 which norton Utilities had said had errors, but which still registered as the second stick ( ie 512 mbs ) when it was in situ.
Blow me, the computer booted straight away!! Great ! - it was a memory fault. I'll buy another stick soon .

Ha Ha - Today , 24 hours later in my flight sim session the computer froze- screen went black - and now it won't boot up!!!
I hope it is the memory finally given up the ghost and nothing else.
My mobo is a MSI 6340 PSU is 350 Enermax CPU is thunderbird 1000. Twice I have thought it was burnt out but it hasn't been the cpu.- and i'm sure it isn't this time !!
Is the MSI mobo prone to premature ( erring on the side of caution ??) shutdown??
Can the memory stick become "displaced " slightly ( thru' overheating?) and which a re seating would cure?
This is an edit update!!
I still can't get it to boot but upon connecting vid card, mouse etc prior to trying a boot, the last thing i plug in before using the switch to switch on, is the power plug, right? But now, when i put the power plug in the computer switches on WITHOUT me touching the switch on the front. It doesn't boot still!.
I switch off at the switch OK and i don't touch the switch again- Plug everything into the rack as described and the computer comes on again " on its own " so to speak!!

Any ideas please ?

It sounds like a bad switch, it is probably stuck in, unplug the switch from the MB and very carefully short the 2 prongs together with a little screwdriver on the board where the switch was plugged in, just a short touch because if you hold the shorting process to long your machine will go into sleep mode.
Bleep

An update - The switch problem seems to have gone. What I did was notice that in the bios there is a fast post - enable or disable , with disable being the default. I cleared the CMOS on the jumper and now I have to press the switch ( as normal ) to start the computer. It still doesn't boot , mind, but the lights come on and cpu fan goes round etc etc.
So I'm thinking that this second lot of memory has blown on me , so it appears I have to purchase another stick to find out.
Unless anyone knows if there is an obvious reason why two sticks of memory should have blown in a relatively short time. Just coincidence?

Bump please - It's now one for the memory experts . I'm really clutching at straws here and all help would be appreciated .
thanks in anticipation
