Memory Overclocking Assistance - OCZ VX on a DFI Nf4

I'll be getting my Winchester 3200 and Leadtek GT6600 tomorrow for my DFI board. I've got a gig of OCZ VX waiting to be overclocked. I know the board can go up to 4.0v with the 'special' jumper, but I'm pretty sure the memory would start smoking with that much voltage.

As it stands, I have an Antec Sonata with the extra 120mm fan in the front (a Vantec Stealth) and the regular 380S True Power PSU that comes with the case. I'm thinking that a hefty memory overclock is going to have some impact on my case temp.

How high can I get my memory before I'm in the 'danger' zone with no dedicated cooling solution for it? Also... if I wanted a dedicated cooling solution (I've seen people talk about having 'a fan blowing over your memory') what would be a good cheap solution?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm not so sure that the memory is going to add alot of heat to the case, but from a cautious approach, I would say after 3.0v.

For $2, some attention to your overall caseflow, and a little ingenuity, a cheap 80mm low-mid speed fan blowing across you memory can only help the cause and possibly your performance as well..

I would also highly recomend placing an 80mm fan over the memory. It made a noticeable difference in my case even though there is a 120mm at the rear of the case and a 120mm in the PS both very near to the memory. The air speed wasnt very high and the extra fan took car of this.

I would recomend starting around 3.0V and increasing with a max of 3.5v (the 3.4V setting on my Ultra-D yeilds 3.46 actual volts). You should be able to run memory speeds around 250mhz (2-2-2-6) at 3.4ish volts.

RAM produces very little heat, because the actual ram chips are seperate from one another, and VX has good heatspreaders on it. You could probably manage 3.7v, but I would not want to push it much further unless you live in a polar region and leave your windows open at night.

If someone has gone through the impressive list of settings and found the best combination for DFI NF4 and OCZ VX combo, I would appreciate if he/she shared the information with us 🙂

It would save a lot of time when I get my hands on my system in couple weeks (pending on Venices arrival)

Oh, almost forgot. Weeee, first post.

3.0-3.1V max with your set up but your ram really takes off at 3.2volts and up. So just plan on setting up an 80mm fan directly over the ram or settle for a lesser overclock.
