Question Memory of a Lenovo P520

Looking for memory for a Lenovo ThinkStation P520. Finding documentation is nearly impossible. I need DDR 4 PC2166 ECC memory. I found some Micron memory on ebay it's 2Rx8. Should any memory work or do I need to be worried about getting something specific.

Yes that should work just fine. Crucial Memory says these are compatible modules and one of them are 2Rx8:

Is there any reason to get 128 GB? I have read using more ram slots can actually slow the system down a bit. The Motherboard has 8 slots. I was planning on running quad channel so was getting at least 4 modules.

Depends on what you are doing with the system as to how much RAM you will need.

If it were me I would get say 32 GB (two 16 GB Sticks) and see how that plays out. Then you can always add more as needed.

The vendor I was looking at didn't have 8 modules so it is kind of moot. Eight GB modules were only 4 dollars cheaper than 16GB so got 4x16GB Micron memory. New at looking at ECC memory so was a little wary about getting ram that will work in the Lenovo system I'm using. I want to take advantage of the 4 channel memory controller since my reading indicates there is a significant bump in performance over 2 channel, as much as 20%. It is difficult to to find benchmarks to match the system I'm thinking about putting together but assuming CPU/ram scales even semi closely it's a big bump.

Wish you the best! Let us know how it comes out.
