Question Memory limits of certain CPUs. i5-6500, only supports DDR4-2133 on a stock chipset? Whazzat? i5-7400 only supports DDR4-2400? i3-8100?

Interestingly, the i3-8100 only supports DDR4-2400, and not 2133/2400 like the i5-7400. Does that mean that the i3-8100 won't run with stock JEDEC RAM?

This is in relation to memory upgrades for the rig(s) I picked up as mentioned in this Pre-built thread:

Anyways, can I just chuck in a set of 2x8GB DDR4-3200 Team Group Vulcan Z memory, and hope that it runs OK (if complete overkill) with the i5-6500 CPU, on an H110 chipset? That's what I picked up, a bunch of kits for under $60 ea., it's not much of a "loss" to run them at 2133, they were (relatively-speaking), "Cheap enough". If anything, 2133 RAM these days carries a price premium, since it's now so unusual (outside of surplus sticks gleaned from OEM rigs like these).

If you use XMP-based RAM kits, you'll get the JEDEC timings programmed into the DIMMs which will normally give you DDR4-2133. You can try reprogramming the SPD timings but good luck with that. Granted you are dealing with OEM boxes here so actual behavior is not . . . guaranteed.
