i picked up this combo yesterday. initially i got 8gb (2x4gb) of corsair vengeance 1600 ram.

when i first booted my new build, i had both sticks in the blue dimm slots (as suggested by the manual) and i would get no video. so i took out the one on the right side, and the pc loaded up. this was with 4gb in.

so i tried 8gb again, no go. i tried swapping the 4gb sticks and it worked with either one, as long as only 1 was in.

i did some more research and found out that ram was not on the list of 'officially supported ram' so i went and exchanged it for the kingston 1600 8gb (2x4gb) that is.

so today i tried it again. the same problem. however now if i put both sticks in the 2 left slots, it recognizes all 8gb. but when i go to put it in dual channel mode (as suggested in the manual) again it doesn't work. then i tried putting both sticks on the 2 right slots of the mobo, and i get the same error.

i also updated the bios to the 0607 version which was released a few days ago, so i'm current with that.

does anyone have any clue wtf could be going on? if i can't figure this out by this weekend, i'm just going to go to microcenter and exchange it for a new one, or possibly a different mobo.

this is annoying as hell cause i've never had an issue like this before when putting a system together lol.

Sounds like a bad board. Take it back to MC and swap it

yea i'm going to wait until the weekend when i have more time to do it, and see if there is some software issue or something i just totally am missing.

additionally my SSD probably won't get here until next monday, so i don't really want to do too much with it until that comes and i can do the REAL installation/setup.

just curious if anyone has heard anything else like this happening.

my SSD actually came yesterday and I got my new computer set up, but i just won't have time to run to MC until saturday. pretty sure i just have a bad mobo though, which sucks because i've never had this issue before.

i do know when i do get my new mobo, i'm testing it out with ram + cpu without installing it in the case.

I had the same problem with 2x 4gb HyperX Kingston 1600 ram. I also put them in the blue sockets first and nothing happend. Then i pretty much drew the same conclusion as you, that i worked with one 4gb ram stick.
Though i also tried putting the two sticks in the black slots which apparently worked.
Now, i dont know if that was what i was supposed to do or if the MB is faulty in some way. If you have any feedback on this matter it would be great.

Please try this if you haven't returned your parts already. :D

I had the exact same issue where I could run my 8GB of Corsair Vengeance @ 1600 in non dual channel, but as soon as I put it in dual channel I would get a BSOD and the red dram LED on the motherboard would flash and give me no video.

My problem was that I checked my BIOS and went into advanced settings, my ram was set to run at 1333MHz and not 1600MHz. I changed it back to 1600 and haven't had a problem since.

Doesn't help directly, but for reference I have the very similar P8Z77-V-LK and have no problems with a set of Mushkin 997046 (not on the list) in the blue slots. Running using the XMP profile.

I need 100% stability as I use the PC for live performance, and in the last 5-6 years I see manufacturers all having issues upon release that requires updates, etc.
WHile this seems hit and miss, I harken from the 100% stability days of all Intel and Supermicro boards, but I am intrigued by the RAM running in parallel instead of serial, which might also be a problem, but on their higher end models, reviewers seemed pleased.

Just another good reason to wait and see, besides, I find buying early is more expensive and more headaches. I prefer a slight drop in prices for extra updates and stability.
But I am so tight with a buck, when I pull a crumbled dollar bill from my pocket George Washington squints as he hasn't seen the sunluight in weeks.

Thanks for the honest reporting, I hope this doesn't mean parallel RAM is going to be a problem. That and the way I can use a 1U ATX from not relying on a Graphics card are 2 big factors for me.

Hope everything works out OK.

Bad slots can happen anywhere on the board, memory, PCI, PCIe, you name it. Some malfunctioning stuff does make it through QC once in a while....or it passes QC and then fails on first use. Has happened to me before, will probably happen again.

Just exchange the board for a new one as it seems your memory does work, just not a particular mem. slot on the board.

If it doesn't work in your new MB either, you may want to consider

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/core/3rd-gen-core-desktop-vol-1-datasheet.html

See Page 23 -> DDR3 1600 Core 3000 support is officially with latency of 11-11-11. (Most 1600 RAM has 9-9-9 atm with a big heatspreader pushed on top, so the chips aren't usually meant for that speed). If your latency is not supported, this could be part of the problem -> Basically unsupported RAM, which _does not_ mean lots of other users can't run that kind on their MBs.

You may want to consider returning the board for the 12 phase versions. Much easier overclocking on those.

I have the same issue with the blue RAM slots.

I have two Kingston 4GB Value RAM stick. The 1st stick will work fine in any slot. The 2nd stick will refuse to work in the blue slot no matter what (red lights and cant boot). I have tested the 2nd stick alone in the black slot with MEMTEST ran overnight and there is nothing wrong with the RAM stick.

So the conclusion: The blue slot is picky and have issues when running with certain RAM sticks....now i put both in black slots in order to get 8GB RAM working. I don't want to send for RMA...ASUS is hopeless...waste my time and probably just say no problem and throw it back to me after 1 month.

I have serious issues with an ASUS M3A board last time....i should have pay a bit more and get a Gigabyte board with same feature sets (which has been very good to me with no problems) instead of this ASUS Sucky shitz...

Thanks for this thread as I have been trying to find the reason why I had no video signal.

I have a i5-3570K and a Asus P8Z77 V LX and 4x4GB Samsung green 1600Mbps 11-11-11-28. On start up the memory red led would come on and immediately go out, in my ignorance I thought that was OK until I read this thread. I have returned board and awaiting to hear from their technical team.

Guys....

I have solved this problem!!! I suspect it has something to do with the contact of the mobo with the casing (i moved it from an old casing to new casing and it stops to worked) causing some short circuit or something. I took out the entire mobo, and tested it outside the casing, the blue slots works fine. So, i carefully screw it back with new screws and voila! No more blinking red light of death!!!

I hope this will help the next guy with the same problem.

@Matrix988

Just curious - what heat sink you using?

I am just using stock intel cooler which comes with my i3-2120...no budget to buy 3rd party cooler after major upgrade including a new monitor...LOL.

Or are you referring to RAM heat sink?? I don't have any RAM heat sink at all. :p

Thnx for coming back and answering my question

I have built many many of these SB IB mobo and certain patterns reveal themselves over time

As far as RAM working or not working ...................

> RAM only has one lock tab now but the sticks must not be levered in with the single moveable tab. It must be pushed in to the point it clicks, and after its in you have to once again push down on non locking side to make sure its level

>Only partial RAM working can mean you have touched the LGA grid with the pin protector or an angled drop of the CPU. These are incredibly fragile, more fragile than you would believe. Only one slightly out of position pin is disaster.

>The CM 212+(EVO) has a nut wrench for the 4 lock nuts that has a combo phillips/slot recess and peeps tighten the nuts to the point they cause the top spacer to mash the tiny traces around mobo holes

>The factory intel HS has no backplate so it curls the mobo when its not bolted down, and often does not have all four plastic spreader locks fully engaged causing a twisting force on mobo. Taking out mobo/resetting 9 mobo screws may have released tension.

>When case manuf started to make giant windows in the sheetmetal to allow access to HS mounting they also made it easier for those rows of RAM soldered leads underneath to short on the window sharp edges.. At one point ASUS was shipping mobo with a 3/4" wide X 4" long neoprene strip glued onto to the mobo underside right onto the RAM leads.

>The latest P77 bios (1206 for me) is an absolute disaster. Only 8 of 16GB RAM showing for many, del to get in bios doesnt work (have to use the num pad del) PCIe 3 issues etc. You really should rollback.

>Case brass standoffs (or integral) must have body length of 5/16" MINIMUM. You must keep the mobo as far away from chasis as possible.

>ASUS has changed from Pegatron to ECS to manuf its mobo, starting next month.Dunno if this is related.

>GSkill RAM is the most workable RAM for these mobo

>You MUST USE XMP RAM profile in bios/AI Overclock. Sometimes XMP gives 1T speed which you may have to change to 2T. Hi Speed (2133 2400) RAM is a waste of money since the MCH is on the CPU die now.
1600 1.5V is all you need.

>You MUST use single kit of RAM, never 2 or 4 kits

>PSU now all have trickle voltage. Installing or removing RAM while mobo start/reset lights are still on is a great way to fry something.

Red LEDs go on in order briefly:
CPU
RAM
VGA
Boot
