My system is a compaq sr2150nx, by default it had 512MB (Samsung), I added another 1GB (buffalo) to give me 1.5GB total. I later purchased another 1GB (HP) hoping to get 2GB, which is the maximum allowed by this mobo, but if I install this HP 1GB, the other memory module will not be recognized. The store I purchased from has a no open box return policy, so I'm trying to get HP to give me a refund since they made both the system and the RAM. Below are the specs of the RAM and the email I sent to HP. To get the RAM specs I used a freeware called PC Wizard 2007. One VERY interesting thing I noticed is that while neither the BIOS nor Windows will recognize the presence of other memory if the HP 1GB is installed, this program WILL recognize the other module.

Anyone wanna take a stab at what's going on?

EMAIL TO HP
problem_description : I recently purchased an HP 1GB system memory
module (HP PROMO 1GB PC2-5300 DIMM, part #Px976AT). I installed this
into the SR2150nx, but if I do so the system will only recognize the HP
Memory and not any other memory modules installed. Due to thorough
testing of possible combinations of memory as described below, I have
concluded that installing the 1GB HP Memory in either Bank 1 or Bank 2
will always make the system ignore any memory installed in the other
bank.
trouble_shooting : Before I installed the HP memory, in slot 1 was using
the factory installed Samsung module (512MB) and in slot 2 I was using a
1GB Buffalo module (MEM BUFFALO DDR2-667 1GB D2U667C-1G/BR). The system
successfully recognized both modules to give me 1.5GB of memory.

A)
I intended to replace the factory 512MB Samsung module in BANK1 with the
1 GB HP memory. When I did this, the system only recognized the HP
memory in slot 1, but not the Buffalo memory in slot 2, giving me only
1GB of RAM instead of the desired 2GB.

Now I tried switching different modules in different banks as follows:

B)
Bank1: Buffalo 1gb
Bank2: HP 1 GB
Result from BIOS- Bank1 not installed, Bank2 1024MB

C)
Bank1: Buffalo 1gb
Bank2: (nothing)
Result from BIOS- Bank1 1024MB, Bank2 not installed

D)
Bank1: HP 1gb
Bank2: (nothing)
Result from BIOS- Bank1 1024MB, Bank2 not installed

E)
Bank1: (nothing)
Bank2: Buffalo 1GB
Result from BIOS- Bank1 not installed, Bank2 1024MB

F)
Bank1: (nothing)
Bank2: HP 1GB
Result from BIOS-Bank1 not installed, Bank2 1024MB

G)
Bank1: Buffalo 1GB
Bank2: Samsung 512MB
Result from BIOS-Bank1 1024 MB, Bank2 512MB

H)
Bank1: HP 1GB
Bank2: Samsung 512MB
Result from BIOS- Bank1 1014 MB, Bank2 not instlaled

I)
Bank1: Samsung 512MB
Bank2: HP 1GB
Result from BIOS- Bank1 not installed, Bank2 1024MB

J)
Bank1: Samsung 512MB
Bank2: Buffalo 1GB
Result from BIOS- Bank1 512MB, Bank2 1024MB

This represents every combination of memory. Buffalo and Samsung memory
works when used by themselves or in combination of each other. HP
memory works by itself but never in combination of other memory modules.

One other thing I noted was that if I installed the HP 1GB or Buffalo
1GB modules, the BIOS showed the memory as being PC4200, but in fact
they are PC5300.

I cannot return the HP 1GB as the store has a no open box policy. If
possible I would like a refund for the memory from HP since HP
manufactured both this memory and the PC. I can provide the original
packaging and receipt
