After replacing my P4 3.0C/800 with a 2.4A/533, I started gettting a lot of errors in programs and when I started a game, either the computer would freeze or restart.

I manually made the DDR400 run at 266mhz because of the lower fsb of the 2.4 (the system wouldnt boot into windows if I let the motherbaord automatically set the ram speed).

However, when I put a stick of DDR333 in the machine, no errors come up and games dont cause a crash but they also run like a slideshow with 256 megs of ram.

This whole setup is only gonna be together for a month so its not a big deal, I'm just wondering if anyone had an answer. The motherboard is a Intel brand 865.

I've tried using just one stick of DDR400 and the same problem happens. I didnt think underclocking memory could cause a problem, the DDR333 is underclocked and it works fine.

thanks

Some earlier Intel 865 boards had some serious bios issues. I had a dead ram slot on mine until I flashed it with the latest bios. I would give that a shot.
