memory ? help

I know i asked this awhile back but couldnt find the thread.

I want to upgrade my memory on the Dell 8500 inspiron, so Dell says use a 512DDR PC2100/266mhz

So i go to Fry's and they have a 512DDR PC2700/333mhz for sale, now can I use this memory still even tho its a pc2700/333 and not a pc2100/266?

yes but you have to run it at a lower clock speed.

Yes, it will just downclock to match the other stick and your processor's FSB.

1) that's a 256MB stick
2) Dell Inspiron = laptop = SODIMMs are needed.
