how effective are these and how do they look when mounted? I can't seem to picture them on there. Will they help any or just for looks?

theym might help if you're seriously overclocking your memory, but if memory really needed heatsinks, it would come stock with them. They are mainly just for looks and peace of mind. BTW, I think they look ridiculous installed, but hey thats just me :)

I ROFLMAO every time I see these ram heatsinks. Unless you are doing some serious overclocking AND you have dedicated airflow over the ram, these HS aen't going to do anything but heat up your ego.

That's what I hate about the Anandtech forums. A majority of you guys aren't Hard enough to understand the concept of modding. You mod because you can and because you like it. Sometimes it is a big waste of money, which it is in this case, but you cannot flame him by telling him the above quoted statement.

I guess getting these would be for purely cosmetics then... I already have a fast computer, now I want it to look cool for all those computer science competitions I take this baby to. I'm getting a window in the side of my case, lights for the inside, one of those doc51 things that you can control your fans and crap with, rounded cables, colored cable ties, and a pretty heatsink on just about anything I can get one on! Hey sure you may think it's a waste of money, but I have sh!t else to spend it on!

Syborg1211: The heatsinks are (IMHO) a good example of form winning out over function. They do look good and you can often order a set of Thermaltake's from outpost.com for $7.99. They're an especially nice touch if you have a case window.

You can get a rough idea of what they look like when they're mounted if you check out some of the pics here.
