memory for my 400sc

i just got a 3.2 ghz dell but with only 128 of ecc 400mhz memory. I want to put 1gig in this system most likely with 2 512meg chips (unless someone feels it is better to get another 128meg and two 256 meg chips and stick with just 750 instead of the 1 gig).
i hear that this system cant really be overclocked b/c it was intended to be a server so i guess i want something with the lowest cas that is stable at 400mhz.
any particular suggestions?

I can't recommend any particular brand, but if you run any non-ECC memory, you will have to switch off ECC support for it to run properly.

thanks i was actually aware of that although not obvious by my post
anyone with any brand recommendations and places to get them from

i went with crucial 1gig (2 times 512) ecc memory and it runs at 400 mhz cas 3 but still pretty impressive

you don't need ECC for the 400SC...
Good choice going crucial.. A LOT of brands, the dell will only detect 333MHz even when it's marked 400MHz... I had the 333MHz ram in another system on SPD detect, and my other system detected 400MHz... so Dell's are REALLY picky with ram... and the sad thing is that you can't change it...

i know i didnt need ecc, just decided to go for it
i couldnt find any memory that would guarantee very low cas at 400 most only guarantee at 333 so i said what the heck lets try the ecc

I bought 2 512 chips from NewEgg and the Dell BIOS confirms that they are running at 400MHz but it says "single" mode. Should this be dual? If so, how can I change that? Thanks.

The chips I bought were:

Buffalo Technology 512MB 6 Layer PC3200 DDR Memory Module CL 2.5 32X8 (Winbond Module), Part# DD4002-512 - OEM

Thanks again.

It should be. Which slots did you put them in? For dual mode, one DIMM has to be in the first vertical slot and the other DIMM in the first slanted slot (if both are in the second slot, this also works).
