Memory for an old 845

A friend of mine as and old HP with a 845 chipset and is looking to get new ram so I picked some out for him here:

But I wasn't ever really an Intel guy and I forgot how finiky ram was back in the day, and the retailer sent him a reply that the 845 wouldn't work with that ram and offerend him more expenseive 32x8 double sided sticks instead. I'm wondering if they are right on that or just trying to sell more expensive stuff?

You could check the crucial website, and see what it recommends. They have a program where you select the motherboard off their listings and it will tell you the correct memory for your board.

Yeah I forgot all about that, unfortunatly I can't get ahold of him at the moment ot find out what the model number is on his HP, but I'll checking with crucial's site as soon as I do get that info.

You linked to PC133 RAM. I have an i845 Northwood machine and it uses DDR. If his machine is like mine, any DDR should work, probably DDR333.

Oh yeah, i forgot the 845 chipstet acutally supported both. His is an old system though and it is most certianly don't running DDR.

I just got the model number from him and it's an HP Vectra vl420-dt, for which Crusial offers this. Those also being built on 64mb chips, I am I right in assuming the ram I orignally picked out would work?
