I'm planning on upgrading in the near future.... Actually it might be *really* near as my power supply smoked on my PC yesterday, so I am stuck using the wife's.

Anyhow, I am planning on either a IS7E Abit or P4P800 Asus. From my research, they take pretty much any DDR mem, from 2100, 2700 and 3200. On reading some of the threads in the mobo forum, it appears that many people have problems with 3200 memory.

Should a guy pay the premium and fight with some 3200 or is 2700 good enough? I'd be looking for 1GB.
I appreciate any help!

If you haven't already you might check the IS7 thread in Motherboards forum and the Anandtech memory article.

If you're planning on running the motherboard at 400 MHz and dual channel, you'll need PC3200 memory. I bought Corsair TWINX1024-3200LL, which is a pair of low-latency 512 MB DDR. I'm using them in a P4P800 with no problems that I've seen. A lot of people are swearing by the Kingston HyperX 1 GB kit (KHX3200AK2/1G) as well. They're both good IMO. If you go to Asus web page for the P4P800 and scroll to the bottom, they have a list of the memory they recommend.

Thanks. Actually, I was looking at the Is7 thread in the mobo forum but it confused me even more. It seems that lots of people are having trouble with memory with that mobo.
The ABIT website isn't helping me much with selecting memory for an IS7 (I can't even download the manual to look!) and the ASUS website only list about a dozen or so sticks for the P4P800... most of which appear to be 3500! I don't want to spend a fortune on memory... esepcially if I can but 1GB of Infenion 3200 for $200 CDN, but of course I want it to work. 3500 seems to be over $200CDN for a 512MB Stick!

It used to be so simple in the past (my current system). PC100, PC133, that was it! :)

Is there really a big performance difference between the 2700 and the 3200/3500?
