Memory foam mattress recommendations?

I got an extra firm foam mattress from Sealy. Cost me a pretty penny, but is very comfortable. You dont need a special box, just a regular one. Thats what I use, its fine.

A pretty penny means nothing to us. How much and which mattress?

People buy those $100 beds from ANY NAME BRAND daily.

They are just rewrapped and full of lice and bed bugs.

Get one at Costco that is 10 inches or thicker. I have one I bought from some mom and pop store a few years ago. These things are getting cheaper than spring mattresses and they are better (unless you are fat and need lots of support).

And either get a box spring (you really need a flat surface under all mattresses) or go get a 3/4 thick particle board for cheap and use that.

I've had one of the ultimate dreams latex foam for 9 months now. I am very happy with it and will probably order another the next time I need one. I ordered mine at a 4 firmness which has turned out well I think. The gf was concerned it would be too hard for her but we both like it. At $750 for cal king I think it was a great choice, and the company was great to work with. I ordered mine just a couple days before I was traveling outside the US so I asked them to hold the mattress until a ship date that would put it on my doorstep shortly after I returned home. They had no issues with that and it worked out perfectly.

Beware though - It comes rolled up in a vaguely human sized box (24" square by over six feet long). It was an absolute bitch to get up to my third floor bedroom by myself. Far better to have help than attempt it yourself.

Thanks for the input on it.

Thanks for the feedback. Is there any reason why I can't put one of these on top of an existing box spring?

I have been shopping for a mattress set for the last couple of months and find the whole experience worse than shopping for a new car. The local retail mattress dealers have such a high markup over US Mattress prices. None of them have been wiling to deal within 20% of US Mattress pricing. Latex seems interesting to try out but none are sold locally. I need to pull the trigger soon since my current set is killing me.

No fundamental reason not to, just be aware of the maximum support spacing. Whether that's a box spring or slats it still needs to be there.

I have mine on a platform storage bed that has appropriate slat coverage. No issues.

I'd be interested in anyone's experience with latex foam. We're in the market for a new king and the price is certainly right. Good reviews too.

I have a latex bed. Best mattress I've had. Wife has back problems and they got much better since we got the latex mattress. Its squishy without being saggy like a soft spring mattress will be. They're supposedly cooler than memory foam, and have a more normal bounce to them.

I asked the same question when we switched to a memory foam mattress last year. The answers I got were the same you are receiving. You CAN put it on a box spring, but it may sag a bit if you box is wimpy/worn out. A platform (solid or appropriately spaced number of slats) is optimal.

I opted to get on of these: Felix Forever Foundations Store More. It was pricy (just under $300) but I love the storage space underneath and being made of sturdy powder coated steel it should be the last bed frame I buy.

I think I bought it from here

Thanks for all the tips, guys. My wife is still convinced a foam mattress will be too warm. I'm going to look around for a local retailer that sells one so I can take her there to check it out.

Yah, its memory foam that has a rep for too warm, not latex.

My wife who is always cold, thinks it's sometimes warm. I almost wish we had gone Latex but overall we're very happy with our memory foam.

For the price I paid we're going to get a good 10 years out of it before I sell/gift to a family member.

Never give up! Please don't give a 10 year old mattress used daily away.
