Perhaps a generic one, not a Tempurpedic.

And what do I put under it? I have heard box springs are not rigid enough for them.

I got a 10" Serta with 2" of gel foam from sams for $599 about a year ago.

Very happy with it, although i feel that 5" of foam would feel exactly the same.

Beds are VERY SUBJECTIVE. I recommend whatever you want you try out.

I have slept in bed others raved about (memory foam) and to me they didn't feel right and I felt hot.

I like a bed that is soft when laying down and you don't sink into when 'playing' in it.

I am up for a new mattress now and the market has changed a lot since I purchased it.

Also beds should be replaced about every 5-8 years max. 10 year, 20 year, etc warranties <> bed life in reality.

I've had one of the ultimate dreams latex foam for 9 months now. I am very happy with it and will probably order another the next time I need one. I ordered mine at a 4 firmness which has turned out well I think. The gf was concerned it would be too hard for her but we both like it. At $750 for cal king I think it was a great choice, and the company was great to work with. I ordered mine just a couple days before I was traveling outside the US so I asked them to hold the mattress until a ship date that would put it on my doorstep shortly after I returned home. They had no issues with that and it worked out perfectly.

Beware though - It comes rolled up in a vaguely human sized box (24" square by over six feet long). It was an absolute bitch to get up to my third floor bedroom by myself. Far better to have help than attempt it yourself.

Queen, and it seems like you can find them for $400-$500.

I paid $250ish for one of the queen-size Costco mattresses about 2 years ago. Not sure which brand...I must say, it's a fine mattress.

Put nothing under it. Just a flat platform frame or just toss it onto the floor, if you're into that sort of thing. Box springs are one of the biggest scams out there. "Hey! I just convinced all these suckers to buy a hollow box of plywood! Muwaahahahaha!"

I've heard that the WalMart brand gets nice reviews, too. At one point, they would deliver for ~$200 total cost for a queen. I believe those had some kind of leafy oils that masked the typical foam chemical odor you get with the new mattresses.

Not all platform beds are equal. If you have a solid base you are good to go.

Most just have a few slats and that will mess up a bed.
