Memory Foam bed toppers

Homerboy

Lifer
Looking to get a 3-4" memory foam bed-top for our existing queen mattress.
What am I looking for? What am I not looking for? Where should I look to buy them?

Thanks in advance.

Memory foam is rated by its weight. The heavier the weight, the better the quality, the longer it lasts, etc. You get what you pay for most of the time, but there are a lot of cheaper companies trying to get into the market. Just make sure you buy from a reputable store and read reviews.

I checked out a bunch, but never bought any. I ended up getting a feather-bed topper from BB&B as a wedding gift so I didn't have a need anymore. The sales guys I spoke with at a memory foam mattress store told me the cheaper memory foam toppers and mattresses will get pits in them if the weight of the foam is too low. Follow research along those lines to get the best quality for the money possible.

I got something similar from Walmart a year or whatever ago. Pretty comfortable bed, and really cheap.

Don't have them at the moment; bought in store for parents about 3 weeks ago.

Not the same brands as at costco.com, however.

Ok just rejuvenating this thread a bit as I'm actually ready to buy now.

There's a 3" 4lb at overstock.com for $129
and there's a 4" 3lb w/ 2 pillows for $149

Opinions?

Go to a store that has memory foam mattresses and see what density you prefer, and choose based on that.

I have a "Serta Deluxe 2-inch Memory Foam Mattress Topper" and I love it. I would say keep two things in mind:

- Thicker is not always better. The 4" mattress topper to me felt like you sunk into the bed, and made it uncomfortable to move around. The 1" topper is barely worth it, though.
- Memory foam mattress toppers have the side effect of preserving more of your body heat, so take that into consideration.

That looks like a really good deal, especially with the pillows. The listed price is $429 fwiw..I'm just not sure if 4" is even better than 3"..

I know this sounds trivial, but the 4" seems like its SOOOO thick. It may be hard to get a fitted sheet over that +the existing mattress. Even if you could, once the bed was made, it would stick up over the footboard 4"+. Would look kinda goofy IMO.

If you're going overstock, make sure you check FW for the latest coupon codes in case any apply for your purchase. There's a thread devoted to the store.
