I have been having some random reboots ever since i got my new 128 sitck and vortex2 (TB Montego II) sound card. I went to check the memory first and found that there was an error. I rebooted and checked again and the error was gone. What may be causing this, and is this the cause of my random reboots? (I used norton diagnostics to check the memory).

did you add the new sound card adn ram at the same time?...is the new stick of ram installed alone or did you add it to what you had...have you tried removing the sound card or replacing the ram...one at a time so you can diagnose the problem better...to see if the random rebooting stops.

I used MEMTEST to check the ram and it reported no errors. I guess the ram is okay, I will try the original Vortex 2 drivers from TB instead of the reference drivers to see how they work first before I try and remove the card. Also when removing the card, can I just disable it in my hardware profile or should i physically remove it?

I built a computer for someone who has simular problems months after I built it. After alot of trial & error, I tracked it down to the Micron PC133 I put in it. I changed the memory stick & it is fine now. I am currently using the memory in my 'burner box' (celeron 300a @ 450mhz) with no problem at all. For some reason, the memory stopped working at 133mhz, but works fine at 100.

Try running your memory bus at -33mhz & see if it still gives you the same problem. Or, you can try a different stick of RAM.

I think there is a bug in the Norton Memery test. If my machine has been on for a couple of hours it always fails the Norton test if I reboot it passes. I bought another stick of Cruical ram and got the same results. Norton admits that if you have over 256megs of ram that their test will fail even if the ram is good. I machine runs very stable and has no crashes or reboots so I feel the problem is the Norton test not the ram.
