I just bought some 2x1GB Patriot LL PC3200 2-3-2-5 RAM

I installed the sticks and first of all they don't OC for crap, but that's not the real problem.

The problem is when I try to run my system OC'd to 2.6GHZ (289x9) with the 7/10 divider (202mhz) the system will restart either on boot up, or seconds after it gets into windows.

I tried memtest at the above settings and memtest detected my RAM was running 289mhz!!!!

The system is running fine at 202mhz 1:1 memory ratio.

What can be causing the divider to fail!?

Thanks

hmm.. well at 289 fsb if you drastically change the divider to like 7/10s it might go higher than what you think.

Did you try any other dividers?

Ok, I am posting from 289*9, 2.6GHZ using the 7/10 mem divider.

Here is the problem:

if I go into memtest using the 3/5 or 7/10 mem divider, memtest reports RAM freq is 1:1 (289). 1/2 and 2/3 divider report RAM freq that are accurate (139mhz 357mhz).

3/4 and higher will not even go into memtest without freezing or locking, so I am assuming its cause the freq is higher than the RAM can go.

Even with memtest seeing 7/10 divider as 1:1, I can boot into windows and even run HL2 stress test. CPU-Z however doesn't even show frequency or FSB:DRAM in the timings table. The boxes are grayed out.

I had to flash my BIOS to get my dividers working with my VX, do u think the BIOS that got me stable with my VX are causing the problem???

There's a 7/10 divider in DFI? Oh. You're using 7/4.

You do know about the severe vcore bug right? It could fry the components of your board easily.

I suggest you go back to 623-3 BIOS unless ur using the BT fix vers of 7/4.

I hope you understand how dividers work with a64s as they don't work like Intel systems. Also if you're testing CPU, I suggest you leave your RAM at the 100 setting.

CPU is fine, but what vcore bug?

With my VX I was using the dividers fine

Nevermind, found the vcore bug, I don't use special VID past 113% so I'm cool, but I need to know what the heck is going on with this RAM

the vcore bug is when you are using vid spec 123 and up i think theres a thread on it with a warning from oskar about it at dfi.street. but its definitely only with the spec %.

anyway, i forget which, but some bios played different tricks with dividers on my boards. my winny never had a problem but the venices definitely. i had problems with getting certain dividers to work on different bios.

i'd just try a different bios, its not like there aren't enough of them :p

I got this RAM at Fry's today just by chance, cause I had been looking at it on the web. The only place I found it on the web was monarch for $256. I got it for $249.99 at Fry's today, so I thought what the heck.

Anyways, I have 15 days to return this stuff for a full refund, which means 15 days to play around.

Tomorrow I'm gonna try some different BIOS (definately will be flashing with the VX sticks in though, I've had a couple of random reboots).

It seems to be running fine right now. I just got dont playing battfield, which finally stopped stuttering and FEAR which still lags at certain points, but feels much smoother. Also when quitting FEAR and BF2 the transition to the desktop is 10x smoother.

2GB is definately worth it, but my DFI board has some kinks in the mem divider dept.

Any other suggestions? Anyone with this RAM and mobo??

i've been using 7/10 with 2.6ghz for a while

memtest reads it as running 1:1 as does most other programs

run memory tests in everest

it should say pc3200

the divider is working

OK, Everest is detecting the memory bus at 200mhz..

So I guess this RAM just sucks for OC since I can't get it past 200mhz??

You'd think I could get a COUPLE MHZ OC out of it.

I guess I'll be taking this stuff back and trying some OCZ PLat Rev. 2. ONly problem is, Fry's doesnt have the Plat Rev. 2 so I can't just "take it back" when I order it from Newegg. PLus it's more expensive.

*Sigh*
