Every once in a while, i will get an error message giving me some hex number and telling me the memory couldnt be accessed and then the desktop goes blank leaving only my open applications and the wallpaper. and then everything comes back after about 5 seconds. what is this and how do i stop it from happening?
Thanks in advance

Ouch.
Sounds like you have corrupted memory chips or a possible component failure on the motherboard (less likely but possible). I think you should do a memory test to make sure that your memory chips are reliable for reading and writing. Download DocMemory for free at

http://www.docmemory.com/PAGE/products/doc/docinfo.asp

It creates a boot floppy that will test your memory by running a series of read and write patterns. It will tell you if you have bad memory.
