Memory Confusion

I'm building a new system and the board I decided to go with is ASUS Crosshair III Formula AM3 AMD 790FX . I know it uses duel channel but looking at the manual it also says it uses DDR3 1600 , but it says overclocked . This is where my confusion starts, do I buy DDR3 1600, and do I have to overclock the ram to get that speed? Can someone help me please ?

Yes the only way to get to DDR3 1600 is to overclock. It should run slower with tighter timings out of the box automatically. You can leave it there if you want.

Just be aware that RAM speed has a minimal impact on real world applications (typically 1-2% at most). If there's cheaper DDR3 grab it, you honestly won't see a difference.
