This is my first computer build. The Asus K8N-E Deluxe mobo user guide has a memory configuration table that I do not completely understand. I bought three Corsair CMX512-3200CR DDR400 sticks of memory. The configuration table only lists two double sided sticks at DDR400 max speed, and three double sided sticks at DDR200 max speed. Is there any way that I can use the third stick(DDR400), or am I restricted to the configuration table of two sticks of DDR400? The max memory for this board is 3GB, and I was hoping to be able to use all three of the 512Mb sticks. I'm new to building, so please excuse the noob question if it seems silly.

Amd 3700+
Asus K8N-E Deluxe Nforce3 250Gb
WD Raptor 74Gb 10,000 RPM
Thermaltake 480watt silent purepower
Gainward Goldenseal Nvidea 6800GT
2x512 Corsair CMX512-3200CR DDR400, + one more?

Best Regards,
Norm

Is this such a stupid question that no one will even chastise me for it? I said I'm a newbie, I just thought that I could get a general answer, even if it was to laugh at me. Thanks for any response.:confused:

hiya, yea it will work with 3 sticks of ddr400 ram, i think the manual is a bit dated as the newer bioses always sorts out these problems.

Thanks, I just found this under the technical notes at the Zipzoomfly.com memory configurator for my mobo:

"This system only supports 4 banks of DDR400 memory. If two double-sided DIMMs are used, the 3rd socket is disabled."

I cannot get the Asus web-site to open up so that I can look around for more info on my mobo.

Guess I'll stick to the manual, unless someone else can tell me if the newer BIOS has changed this, or if I am able to change it in the BIOS manually. I'm also wondering if I will be able to update the BIOS if the Asus site is down, or where will I find the updates? I'm waiting on the video card to arrive to finish putting my system together, so I'm in no hurry.

Hello,

Just buy 3 single sided 512MB PC3200 modules and you can use all three slots. This is only an issue with double sided modules.

Asus tech rep says that if I run all three DIMM slots with the DDR400 PC3200 memory that I will be running PC1600. He suggested I just run the two sticks. Anybody want to buy a 512MB stick of Corsair XMS PC3200 DDR400?

Best Regards,
