I have been trying to do my research, however it is very hard for me since I am not very learned in what makes for GOOD memory, especially since I do not overclock. With the release of socket AM2 I would like to know how memory recommendations are going to change in the future. I am looking forward to building a new computer, I would like to build it on AM2 if possible however I don't want to have to pay tons of money to get decent RAM. The onboard memory controller in the later revisions of the A64 chips was remarkable in that at stock speeds it seemed to manage even value memory very efficiently and so recommendations of top of the line memory dropped to value select for those who were not interested in overclocking. If this is wrong please correct me.
Anyways, if this doesn't hold true with AM2 and DDR2 memory I don't want to make the switch. I am already in a fury with how much the price of video cards have increased and now I'm at the point where I don't want to spend an obscene amount of money on a computer. So with the release of AM2 will value DDR2 perform at par or close to that of premium memory? Or will I need to use expensive high quality RAM to squeeze out performance?
Thanks in advance.
