Im' attempting to do a small upgrade on a friends old Packard Bell. It is a 233mmx Pentium.

Integrated video and sound. 2 DIMM Memory slots.

At boot, this is on the first screen....

Packard Bell Bios x 1.14r

10/15/97 - i 430 vx - SMC 37C93 - 2A59GB3JC - 00

34297-OEM-0028301-67640

I'm unable to determine what memory this mb is capable of using. A i430vx chipset for sure, but I cannot find any info regarding memory.

Any help pointing me in the right direction is much appreciated.

From the Shuttle site...

<< HOT-555A: 2 sockets for 168-Pin DIMM Modules in sizes of 8, 16, 32 MBtotal size is 32 MB FPM, EDO or SDRAM in each DIMM/SIMM slot
Note: 32MB modules must be double-sided (with 16 memory-chips)
>>

Would this info hold true of all i430vx chipsets?

I have a 430TX mobo (72pin or sdram). I recently pulled out 80MB edo (this are expensive) and put in 2 X 128 MB or PC133 for a total of 256mb and run like a charm. This was the max the mb can handle. If you have spare PC133's give it a shot, otherwise it uses PC66 (very hard to find). If it cannot handle the dimms it will not post.

FlipSide, no.

Whether or not a DIMM works on an older board is not a question of the DIMM's PCxxx maximum speed rating, but rather of SDRAM chip technology density.

i430VX can't handle more than 16 MBits per chip, in other words, DIMMs larger than 16-MByte single-sided 8-chip or 32-MByte double-sided 16-chip won't work right. Larger DIMMs will not be used at full capacity.

Thanks! That's the information I needed. I could remember something about the density issue, but not the details.
