 Have IBM T43p laptop w/1gb PC2-4200 (2x512) CL4 533mhz
Will 2x1gb of value corsair PC2-5300 CL5 667mhz, work OK in laptop?
Will it slow laptop due to different speed of mem or will laptop make
the 5300 work as 4200, and cause no problems? Achieving the desired
"doubling" of mem? (5300 lots cheaper than 4200) Thanks for any info.

It might work.

But it will work at the slower speed, since the frequency of the FSB and the memory dividers are not adjustable in OEM computers, especially the laptops.

I would recommend getting the RAM exactly as specified by IBM, due to potential incompatibility problems.

Good luck!

Thank you, JAG.

Update, using PC doctor/win, diag and sys info......... the T43p (2668) shows the 2024 ram and is running at 661mhz.
Passed all diag tests. So far sys running stable.
Looks like I saved some $, achieving the desired "doubling" of mem.
I did not think that the FSB would have changed, but I'm not complaining.
Luck was good. Thanks again.

Cool!

I wouldn't think that the FSB (or at least the Memory Bus) would change, but... isn't that good that it did? LOL

Glad it worked...

Well.........Looks like JAG, was right. "potential incompatibility problems"
System worked fine, until a large CAD file is opened, when trying to work on it, then system locks up.
Reinstalled the orig 1gb, CAD file not locking up.
Will RMA 5300 2gb, and spend the extra $ for 2gb of PC2-4200 CL4.
Pooop, thought I had it made.
I should know better, and should have listened to AnandTech fourms.
