Memory Cards - What's the Difference?

Okay, so I bought a new didgital camera. Minolta DIMAGEX to be precise. It comes with an 8 MB SD card.

Now, I know the SD (Secure Digital) cards are faster, but they're also WAY more expensive.

While browsing for other cards, I've found a whole bunch of names including:

Secure Digital (SD)
Smart Media
Compact Flash
Multimedia Card (MMC)

So what the heck is the difference between all of these types. And more to the point, which ones are compatible with my DIMAGEX?

Thanks for the help guys,

- Dave

Compact flash and smart media are two very different types of media cards. (Different sizes and interfaces). I am new to secure digital cards, but I bet they use another card size and interface. Check your user manual for other cards that you might be able to use with your camera.

This is one of the reasons why I bought a Canon digicam, since they use 'regular' compact flash cards with are super cheap...
