I'm about to pull the trigger on my new computer purchase.. here is what I have in my cart.
MSI K8N NEo Plat - $136
AMD 64 3500+ Retail 90nm - $295
Corsair Value Select (Dual Pack) 184 Pin 512MBx2 DDR PC-3200 - OEM - $157
PNY 6800GT $369
sata 160 Samsung - $90
Antec Sonata w380W TruePower $59.95 after rebate
NEC 3500A OEM $71

Total system $1,180.95

I'm wondering if my inexpensive ram is going to cut it? I don't think I?ll need to overclock this system to play the hell out of some HL2.

Or I could spend $275 on ram, get a more expensive power supply, spend $100 less on a processor and maybe get 2.4-2.5Ghz or just get the stock 2.2GHZ out of my system I plan to get.. What do you think?

Value ram will be fine on an A64 as timings are not as important. I'm running value ram right now and have had no performance issues.

you'd be surprised about the value ram, i swear. lets see i just posted this somewhere else but i have
the older pc2700 VS 512mb and it is rated at 2.5-3-3-7, 166mhz. It runs fine at 225mhz 2.0-2-2-5 (2.9v) which is more like pc3500 speeds. I don't know what its max capability would be if I relaxed the timings and tried for higher mhz.
