memory 9ram0 for THIS computer

i decided to keep my laptop and not buy a really nice one, that is ALOT mor ethen 700 dollars when i go off the college, but for my current one, i would like it to run faster. I am not sure how to do that. Will RAM make it run faster? or is that the processor that makes it run faster, or the harddrive?

just checking. I think i am going to get more memory no matter what i just need to know what company and stuff to get that is good memory and compatible with my coumputer. here are my computers specs-

It looks like you have a 2.4GHz Pentium 4 (maybe Celeron?) and PC-2100 (DDR266) DDR RAM. What we need to know is how much RAM is in their now. You can check prices on PC-2100 SO-DIMM modules here.
 
Your system takes PC2100 and will take a maximum of 1024MBs of memory. Yes, more memory will help the system preform better and should improve the speed depending on how much memory you already have installed.

Max out memory (should be around $100 for 2 x 512MB PC2100 SODIMM if you find some cheapo memory). Newegg was a decent source for me (using PC2100).

And make sure your heat sink fan for your processor is clean. Blow it out with compressed air on a regular basis. I've had to work on computers that had "reboot problems" and CPU throttling that were often fixed by removing the dust cake inside the HSF 🙂

You should be fine putting in 2x512MB. Look for both slots, one might be under the keyboard.
