Is it just me, or is the math a little off on that one... $49.98 -$15 -$15 should be $19.98. Still a great price as far as I can tell... Anyone know about the quality of these guys? Do they hold their data?

The deal is:
$39.99-$15 instant rebate-$15 mail-in rebate = $9.99

These should be Ricoh disks. Great quality. Burned 50 with a A06 flawlessly.

Bottom line Great Deal!

As noted below these are DVD+RW not the DVD+R. I have had good luck with the Memorex DVD+R media made by Ricoh, not the +RW.

Still not a bad deal.

From the ad it looks like it is 2.4x dvd+rw 39.99 - 15 IR - 15 MIR. This is Rewriteable. Looked like some mixed results at www.dvdrhelp.com with these. They could be Ricoh or CMC

I picked up a couple of spindles this morning. Good luck getting them tomorrow; we know how well OM stocks for specials. My store had a total of 4 spindles on the shelf. The ones I bought are 2.4 X, Made in Taiwan and they rang up today for $39.99 each. This seems more in line with the going price for +R discs. Wonder if OM goofed?

I just bought a Sony 510a and a 25 pack of DVD-Rs at Staples. I bought the -Rs for compatibility. I will be playing movies of both a PS2 and Xbox. Is there any empirical evidence that +Rs or RWs are as compatible (or are getting there) as the -Rs are, especially when it comes to the PS2 and Xbox?

Hey, who makes these disks? Can you read the ID of a disk for us? Thanks.

PlayStation 2 Media Compatibility

The Xbox is a lot trickier and depends primarily on the type of drive you got with your unit. Find out what drive you have first. Once you've surmised this, there's lots of discussion on that same site about compatibility.

Cheers!

I think you need to mod your machine first right?

Sometimes Officemax will remove a item from the web site then put it back on on the site on Sunday when the sale starts.

Also remenber that there's free shipping at Officemax.com no minimum order is required for a limited time.

Stopped by shortly after opening, and they were already sold out of these as well as the 25pk CDRW for $7.95. Apparently each store received exactly 6 of the Memorex DVD+RW spindles.

Coincidentally, they weren't accepting rainchecks/holds "on certain items", including these DVDs.

Branch manager's demeanor was basically "yep, it's really lame, and that's just how we operate". He seemed to be cheerfully resigned to the fact that his job was to basically be a foil for abuse from customers, since we don't get to yell at the people who actually set up these deplorable little schemes.

And b&m retailers wonder why they're losing marketshare to hassle-free online shopping.

FYI, CompUSA has these for $26.98, no rebates. A fatwalleter said that CompUSA also did a "unmatched" price match for the media. I'm headed to my local store to get a spindle or two.

I too discovered that the rebate isn't their in their usual mail in rebate book. Went back to them and they gave me a xeroxed printout which one needs to send with upc code to them. The sheet asks one to go to rebateshq.com. However that website does not display this rebate.

Btw media is "Made in Taiwan" so is most probably not Ricoh

Stopped by the OfficeMax 80 minutes after they opened today.

Bad news, all _4_ of the ones they had on the shelf were sold (according to salesguy)

Good news, this store issued rainchecks.

So, no +RW joy for me now. But maybe someday I'll get them, and no rebate to hassle with.

That's what pisses me off about OM. They consistently do this. Anything that's worth a crap in their sales flyer is sold out within minutes because they never have any stock. My OM doesn't substitute or give rain checks either. Big waste of time for me.

Get this.. I ordered a 120 gb WD drive and 10 pack of DVD+R's for the OM Black Friday sale. Both were initially in stock according to the site, but then came up back ordered. OM finally got the hard drive for me, but when they couldn't find it locally, they cancelled the original order and reordered it on the 9th. The rebates said within 30 days, so I was fine time wise, but since my new order receipt said 12-9 instead of 11-28 (when I ordered), my $50 rebate was no longer any good. I called OM and they said that they couldn't help me. I then told them that I was returning it to my store because the last time they picked up an item for an exchange, they never gave me credit for the item that they picked up. It took more than a half dozen calls and a month to get the charge credited to me. Never again.

Also.. I can't seem to find the rebates for the DVD+R's on OM's site any longer and since they haven't delivered those to me either yet, I bet I'm SOL for the rebate because most of the Khypermedia stuff is 7 days and it's been more than 14 now.

I think I'm done with OM. Too much BS for what it's worth.
