Memo to EA Sports...

To whom it may concern...

In Q3 and Q4 of 2004, you have lost the sale of no less than five games because they don't offer online play on the Xbox. Although I prefer the play of SSX to Amped and Madden to ESPN NFL, I chose the latter in each case because they offer online play.

I didn't even bother considering NHL2004 or NBA Live, and picked up Sega's versions instead.

When it comes time to purchase a golf game, my cash will be spent on Links 2004... When it comes time to purchase a racing game, Project Gothem Racing 2 will be in my collection. Again, in both cases EA's offerings aren't considered because they lack online play.

Sincerely,
Am I the only one who feels this way?

Living in a house with 25 guys, it's never a challenge to find someone else to play Madden with...so no.

I don't have an Xbox, but it's absolutely insane to create a game that could be played multiplayer and not include multiplayer support.

it's called a plan. they didn't include it this year, because the next version will be online multiplayer, forcing you to get it.

Not so much. EA and MS can't seem to see eye to eye on how to implement online play. For some reason, they don't want to do it like everyone else does.

EA Sports are putting out a lot of crap games these days.. those sports franchise that people still buy year after year :frown:

Not. EA hates microsoft so they're making us the consumer pay for it. I can't remember what went down, but I do remember microsoft did something to tick off the folks over at EA.

I feel the same as you do Wingznut.

EA wants to "stick it to the man" by not including online play on the Xbox versions of the games.

What it all boils down to is money. EA wants to run its own servers and charge players to play the games that they already paid $$ for. MS wants to make it as easy as possible for its consumers to log in and play. EA thinks MS is trying to "control the consumer" while MS is trying to better its service to people that have already bought their products.

Its fine with me, EA can eat me for all I care. They produce mostly subpar games (excluding half of their sports titles, and the C&C series)

It doesn't help that EA tends to be a black widow developer, acquiring smaller companies, taking over their assets and firing everyone. But thats for another rant 😛

I've had a PS2, and will again come Xmas. But I still prefer gaming on the Xbox, ESPECIALLY online gaming.

Xbox Live, with it's broadband only gamers and MS servers, is infinitely more stable and enjoyable than the other platforms.

I thought this was MS's fault? Being nazi's about their servers and stuff and not letting EA do their own thing. EA sports has been putting out awesome games lately, and thier whole online league thing is awesome! Too bad they can't do the same thing on Xbox, becasue MS won't let them. Not their fault.

What's wrong with EA playing nice and setting their games up for XBL like EVERYONE ELSE? Xbox live is terrific, instead EA wants to charge everyone ANOTHER fee on top of Xbox live AND the cost of their game to play online. Also- EA's games have pretty much stunk. I like Madden but the rest of the games they put out are garbage. Their NHL games are total jokes. I buy Madden for PC anyway, because I'm so much of a roster freak I need to do my own rosters and ratings, so I don't care about it's online play.

You do realize EA games are free to play online with a PS2?

It's purely a money issue. If they really cared about you buying Sega over EA on the XBOX, then they would have signed up for Live. They know the situation here. But, bottom line, they didn't want MS to control the online servers. They understand that gamers want it. They aren't idiots. What do they gain by server control? Lots actually. You get all the user information for selling purposes. You get all the internet traffic to your sites to check stats and so forth. You have a fan base on the web that can be targeted by advertisements which line EA's pockets. Tie-in deals and other promotions run whenever you feel like it. Immediate changes to servers without having to contract MS or deal with them (cheat detection, etc).

It boils down to money. EA knows people will buy other products b/c they are online. However, they don't care at this point because they'd be making less money to sign on with LIVE. They are one of the few companies that can pull such a stunt. Most people support LIVE b/c its easy and quick for them to get their game online. They don't care so much about control.

I don't have a PS2, but yes, I know they are free. They charge monthly fees to play online w/ the PC version, however.

They always have. They're games have always been the poorest (visually) and contained the most bugs, from my experience.

Live is the ish

I dunno... Woulda been nice if I could play NCAA FB 2004 online against someone on my XBox... I do remember that playing NFL2K1 online on Dreamcast sucked ass. All I ever saw was crowd blitz from the 3-4 formation on defense. And when they had the ball, they'd only throw long balls or run outside... It was so predictable. And these punks would leave right before the game ended too. I've noticed that I'm more sensitive to lags(than I am when I'm playing FPS) when I play sports games on XBox live, so I guess I don't miss it "that much".
