How does member status work here? Doesn't seem like you change ranks by your number of posts alone...can anyone inform me on this??

0-20 Junior Member
21-200 Member
201 - 1000 Senior Member
1001 - 2000 Golden Member

Any other membership designation is for reasons other than post count. If you do a search in the archives you'll probaby have a better background on it than could be provided in a brief statement.

For future reference, that information can be found under the "Help" section, and I'm sure a search would yield the answer as well. 🙂

Wow I had no idea help was disabled. The search function still works though, right?

At any rate, it's a good thing I said "For future reference." 😉 😛

<Edit> Hmm that first one is supposed to be a winky. I can't tell the difference between a winky and a smiley. 😕

It's weird eh? I looked in one day & it wasn't there. Maybe updated w/new 3.0 release info. But the 'for future reference' is good 😉

As for search I've had no problem unless using specific date parameters, but otherwise seems good.

Me too 🙁 I use 😀 for smile now, I guess for wink I'll have to do something like this 😉 <-wink.

That'll probably be what I do as far as the wink goes. Some of the user icons are a bit wacky as well, they fit fine with the smilies, but not with the rest of the user icons (perfect example is the crazy icon and the pink haired icon).

I suppose Zuni is either dealing with it or has decided to leave it that way. 😛

What is the hierarchy here?

 1. While there is no minimum post requirement, the total must be substantial, and number of posts is not the only criteria.
 2. Length of time as a member, while important, is not specifically defined. But, racking up a couple thousand posts right after joining is not going to get you there.
 3. The members contribution must be valuable to the other members. This does not necessarily mean one who answers many hardware questions, but also members who post entertaining, enlightening, educational, or just plain fun material.
 4. The member must be supportive of the BBS, and of AnandTech. To clarify this, it will not matter if you have 10,000 posts if you feel compelled to personally attack my Moderators when they are just trying to do their job.

This is not to say that constructive criticism and suggestions aren't welcome. They are. But, many of you seem to think it's okay to throw stones at people who volunteer their time out of a love for AnandTech.
