I'm quite intelligent. :biggrin: I do not profess expertise in many areas though. Just because I am not an expert programming wizard who can do brain surgery while launching rockets for NASA does not mean I am any less intelligent.

Expertise != intelligence.

I've found that the more intelligent people are, the less inclined they are to proclaim their own intelligence.

I couldn't say, there have been more than a few knowledgeable people around these parts, back when HT used to be HT (it might be again, havent looked in a long time) there were some amazing discussions on all sorts of scientific matters.

Rubycon does appear to be pretty smart.
 
It's not me. There are a number a few people here who are better than me in mathematics and physics. If I were to be stranded on a deserted island, Gilligan's Island style, my first choice to have on that island would be Rubycon. Partly because I've heard she goes skinny dipping (I don't think Mary Anne or Ginger ever did), but mostly because of her intelligence.

edit: one other thing to point out which has amused me greatly to ponder; among many of the people mentioned in this thread, a lot of those people are older. Much older. I think that with age and experience, often comes some wisdom. Out in the real world, I meet a lot of 20-something year olds who think they know everything, and have little to learn from older people. One of the things that I've greatly enjoyed on the forums is that I can see things in perspectives of other age groups. It's really interesting, to me anyhow, that I can occasionally see something new from one of TridenT's posts. Usually what's most amazing is points of view about what's important in life. (I'll note now that it's incredibly rare to gain anything from TridenT's posts, lest it go to his head.) But, one thing that I've learned is that when you get an opportunity to sit with older people and just listen to them, it's often quite worth it. I was out of town this past weekend (goat show) and had such an opportunity to chat with the 76 year old father of one of the other exhibiters. It was one of the best hours of the weekend.

I've noticed that as well from some of his posts. IMO, being able to relate a complicated idea to someone with no understanding of it is a form of genius in and of itself. Being highly intelligent is one thing, understanding something to the point of breaking it down into parts and forms understandable to one less intelligent is quite another.
