Megyn Kelly - Black Face Halloween Comments

I hadn't seen a thread on this... Megyn Kelly is in hot water for saying she didn't think black face costumes were that big of a deal on Halloween. Of course the left freaked out and now it looks like she may lose her job over her benign opinion. This is the left's ways today, either get on board 100% with group think or face the consequences. And the liberals think they are the defenders of free speech and individuality, the anti-fascists. So ironic.

What she said.

Her future in doubt at NBC.

What did she say, I’m not where I can watch a vid

"But what is racist?" Kelly asked on her show. "Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. Back when I was a kid that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character."

Her statement ignores the history of black face and minstrel shows which were far from flattering portrayals of blacks. It's offensive. It's rooted in a history of dehumanizing black people.

Black people are deeply offended by it. They get to choose if it's offensive to them. Not white people who want to tell them they shouldn't care.

There is no acceptable reason to ever don blackface. It’s not a joke; it isn’t funny. No claims about humor or creative license can ever make it okay. Blackface is part of a history of dehumanization, of denied citizenship, and of efforts to excuse and justify state violence. From lynchings to mass incarceration, whites have utilized blackface (and the resulting dehumanization) as part of its moral and legal justification for violence. It is time to stop with the dismissive arguments those that describe these offensive acts as pranks, ignorance and youthful indiscretions. Blackface is never a neutral form of entertainment, but an incredibly loaded site for the production of damaging stereotypes...the same stereotypes that undergird individual and state violence, American racism, and a centuries worth of injustice.

Blackface is explicitly racist. There's no ambiguity about this. This is not about "group think;" it's about having a major TV personality show some basic respect for black people.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that you'd defend blackface under false pretenses since you're the definition of a passive-aggressive bigot, but it's still disgusting.

This whole thing is just proof that you take the anchor out of Fox News but you can't take the Fox News out of the anchor.

I'm curious where is "whiteface" even a thing?

The OP's comments aren't even worth a response.

I don't see this as choosing anything for anyone, but rather sharing our history and our perspective. That's called being inclusive. It grants insight into a past where people didn't see offense. As Americans, through sharing our mutual, but potentially conflicting stories and histories, we might treat each other better after having shared those experiences.

Instead she gets chased out of town by an angry mob. HOW DARE YOU participate?!

The Democrat response seems highly regressive to me.

Very well said, sir.

This reads like satire.

Please source the bolded claim.

You think dressing up in black face is sharing history? I can already see your issue.

This part is just bull shit. Whites may have been ignorant of the offensive nature of it at that time., that in no way means blacks were not deeply offended by it.

She said when she was younger people dressed up in black face or white face. It wasn't racist as they were dressing up as a character. Then she gave an example of someone from a Real Housewives show that dressed up like Diana Ross, darkened her skin to look more like her because she is a beautiful woman. Kelly didn't think it was a real big deal. For having this opinion it looks like she will now be fired. Leftist group think... or else.

Sometimes things that offend some percentage of certain demographics isn't racist, it just means that those people have been fooled to believe such by the snowflake side of the political spectrum. Dressing up like Diana Ross vs. mockingly use blackface (old cartoons,a s an example) are two very different things.

Blackface is still racist no matter what your intentions (I would say whiteface is disrespectful, too, even if it doesn't have the overtly racist history that blackface does). I dare you to ask black people what they think of it... something tells me they will never adopt your point of view.

I don't see an issue with a white person dressing up as a black character, assuming they are doing it respectfully and not in a mocking way.

But there is no way blackface is not racist. Blacks dress up as white characters all the time without white face, why would you need black face to dress as a black character? Only times I've ever seen it done in recent times was 100% meant to be racist and usually includes a simulated lynching.

Hey, moron: maybe you should mail her a bomb, too?

I never comprehended why NBC News thought it was a good idea to pay her millions in the first place. She's not particularly good at her job, at least in this format, and has created a lot of cringeworthy moments to the point of visibly pissing off/insulting her guests.

Are we supposed to be offended by this?

Because I'm a white male and I find that character fucking hilarious.

Or is he allowed to break the rules since he's a comedian? And if so, would a white comedian be allowed to pull off blackface without an uproar?

Gene Wilder did.

Does this make Robert Downey Jr. a racist because he played a character with a blackface in Tropic Thunder?

Probably the same place that oppresses wealthy white Christians and wages war on Christmas.

You seem very concerned.

Read this. Then get back to us.

http://www.thefader.com/2016/07/29/skit-that-killed-chappelles-show

… a sketch about magic pixies that embody stereotypes about the races. The black pixie—played by Chappelle—wears blackface and tries to convince blacks to act in stereotypical ways. Chappelle thought the sketch was funny, the kind of thing his friends would laugh at. But at the taping, one spectator, a white man, laughed particularly loud and long. His laughter struck Chappelle as wrong, and he wondered if the new season of his show had gone from sending up stereotypes to merely reinforcing them. "When he laughed, it made me uncomfortable," says Chappelle. "As a matter of fact, that was the last thing I shot before I told myself I gotta take f______ time out after this. Because my head almost exploded."

Always Sunny did a blackface bit, they just did so with the acknowledgement that it’s super racist.

This is because they aren’t ignorant morons like Kelly.
