It doesn't come out until 9/15 but I just heard a copy and it's pretty dam impressive. New lead guitarist Chris Broderick can shred. 1320 (song about racing cars) absolutely destroys Metallica's Fuel.

One review:

Final verdict: This is an almost absurdly strong album. I don't know what made Dave Mustaine decide to get serious about playing extreme metal again, but between this and the forthcoming Slayer album, a mighty high bar has been set for younger bands. If they stripped Endgame down to nine tracks, omitting "The Hardest Part Of Letting Go...Sealed With A Kiss" and "Bodies," and moved "44 Minutes" deeper into the album (say, between "Headcrusher" and "How The Story Ends"), this would be the best Megadeth album since Rust In Peace. As it is, it's the best Megadeth album since Countdown To Extinction.

Although I liked that song Bodies.

I'll definitely be buying this on the 15th.

Sounds interesting. I've never been a Megadeth fan, but I like a few of their songs.

What's it sound like? Still kick bass bass guitar? Hard? Fast? Or just sounds like megadeath? Eitherway I'll probably buy it especially if there are some hi-res formats.

Sounds just like megadeth. Just listened low here at work on the PC speakers, sounds an awful lot like megadeth. Thats all I can say till I can get it out to me car.

Over the weekend Directv showed a Megadeth concert taped in San Diego. Two things I found interesting:

- Not much was going on onstage. Dave either was disinterested or he's getting older and has less energy.
- Quite a few of the solos were played by the new guitarist Chris. In the late 80s and most of the 90s, Dave would have played all of them. I'm wondering if age is catching up to him.

I should qualify the above with the fact that I haven't kept up much with Megadeth since the early 90s.

Many of the songs are hard and fast, and I'm talking hard and fast like you haven't seen from them in a looong time. Some mix it up just right. The ballad is slow (and meh) and the only song I didn't like that much.

My link above gives a track by track analysis, check it out.

Here's a link to their first single: Headcrusher I think you have to register to listen. All I'm going to say is you, uh may, *cough* find the other tracks on that site (uploaded by other users). ;)

From the guy who reviewed it, on Headcrusher (link in OP):
This song's been out for a while in live clip form (click the title to check it out), but the studio version is where it really lives up to its title. An absolutely gear-grinding riff played at blinding speed, killer solos...this makes six savagely assaultive tracks out of nine so far, which in turn makes this one of Megadeth's best albums ever.

He REALLY messed up his arm/hand in a motorcycle accident awhile back to the point where he didn't think he would ever play guitar again period, so the fact that he's able to play at all is good, but I don't think he ever got full dexterity back so its not surprising that he doesn't try to play all the solos.

I listened to the new album the other night and yeah, it's really solid. I thought their Risk album from, what, 1999?, was a solid album, but haven't liked much since then. This definitely sounds much more like the older stuff from Countdown, Peace Sells, etc..

/agree, definitely sounds like Rust In Peace and Countdown. I'd be surprised if Mustaine could pull off some of the solo's that Broderick did.

Also, Mustaine said that Megadeth getting Broderick was like:
it reminds me a lot like when Ozzy found Randy Rhoads."

That is some high praise for a guitarist!

Hell yes! I haven't liked anything since Youthanasia, I would love to see something from him ala RIP. Although I always preferred Marty Friedman's soloing to any other.

I really liked The System Has Failed. Kick the Chair is such a cool song; lyrically and guitarically. :)

As far as I know, Countdown was the last Album released by Megadeth .... :) I'll have to give this a listen to see if I still need to stick my fingers in my ears and say "lalalala"

Fixed.

This. And Justice for All was an awesome album, but it signaled their decline, and the crap they put out afterwards, well, :vomit:

At least Megadeth has kept it hard. Metallica has gone completely pussified - I mean seriously, Careless Whisper? These guys going out on stage with skirts these days? They'll probably start crying on stage and singing whiney country covers next.
