MegaCorp Internal Job Application Question

I work for MegaCorp. I have applied for an internal job, which my credentials align very well with. Being an internal candidate I have the advantage of knowing the hiring manager's name as it's listed on the job posting. Should I reach out to the listed hiring manager even though I do not know the hiring manager to express my interest and let him know I applied for the job posting?

Absolutely. I'd do everything within my power to increase the odds, even with some risks. Always worth it.

Definitely. Good to have an informal conversation with the hiring manager before even applying. I've done that twice in my company now.

The worst he's going to say is don't call him, he'll call you

Not just that, ask him to lunch/coffee or some shit to actually attempt to build a relationship other than just sending an email with the paraphrased message of "Sup dude, I supposedly know you - see my application".
