well we're home now, they ended up having to put an IV in her foot :( Adria is still lethargic and has gone quite some time without a dirty diaper, but the bilirubin levels are slowly dropping. They said if she doesn't poo by 9pm tonight to "stimluate her rectum" to try to get things moving... I don't know if I can bring myself to do that.

OP edited with one of the saddest pictures i've ever taken, my week old baby girl in an incubator with an IV in her foot...

:( :( :(

it is so hard to have an ill baby.
I cannot imagine what you must be going thru to have to see your little child in an incubator.

My prayers will be with your little one for a full and speedy recovery.

she's OK now, but she lost a little over a pound. Mom wasn't producing much milk at all, and we had no idea. Now she is on formula and a much happier, healthier baby.

Not to be too graphic or anything... but the not producing milk thing... Was your wife not able to produce enough at all? I had the same problem at first... but the doctors gave me ideas and suggestions on how to ...erm... hard to word it.. 'increase the flow'.

I tried formula for a few weeks with VeggieFrog when I did not make enough... but she got sooooo colic... it was torture for me to see her in so much pain... so the docs told me what to do and i was fine after that.

i am glad she is getting better. it is horrible to see your tiny baby be ill and feel helpless and scared.

:)

she would try with the aid of a "nipple shield" that was supposed to help Adria latch on. When Adria would pull away, we would figure she ate her fill, and there would be a teaspoon or so of milk left in the shield. Turns out that teaspoon is all she was producing. She pumped both breasts for about 15 minutes each using a nice $400 electric pump and got less than 4ml. She says they don't feel engorged or anything either.
