Medium rare steaks are disgusting

Like 50% of steaks are USDA choice. USDA prime is something like under 5% of all meat.

You can get USDA Prime at CostCo but they are much more expensive vs. choice. You see them at $12-$15+ a pound.

Even with Prime, like I said earlier, top steakhouses still have first selection in cuts and then everything else gets push down. Grocery stores are last I believe.

It is pretty hard to find prime in average grocery stores. Prime is the best of the best, and as such, is in limited supply.

This thread has only confirmed that this weekend I am surely having steak. And, it certainly will be rare.

I have gotten Prime at Sams club too. Much more expensive sure and sometimes not much better then choice.

I swear the stuff i get from the butcher or even teh butcher at hivee is as good (sometimes).

the best cuts of choice is a better buy than the worst cuts of prime.

This is what I've found to be true. Unless you can get a good cut of prime, you are better off getting a great cut of choice. I generally buy steaks from a butcher and not the local supermarket and haven't had a bad one yet.

same. though High-vee has a butcher in store and that stuff is good too. Though it seems to be hit and miss.

Anyone who can't afford $80 for a meal must be on medium wage.

i could afford it but choose not to waste money on such revelry

not because im on medium wage, but because im a common sense %1'er

the difference between a 20$ meal and a 80$ meal is nowhere near worth 60$. why waste that money when i could keep it and be 60$ richer?

It makes the meat slimy and tough to chew. I don't like slimy, I want something substantial I can bite into.

In general I agree. However, as can be seen in this thread, ATOTer's can all afford to eat only the best prime steaks. Unfortunately I cannot.

I hate gooey, lifeless food in general and don't understand people who eat undercooked eggs.

This is where we part company: Eggs Benedict FTMFW!

Well we're not eating this every night for dinner but once a month or every few months doesn't break the bank. Hell I haven't been to a steak house in 2+ years because I haven't had anyone that I would want to spend that money on and my friends are too cheap to splurge on that.

I don't eat steak a lot, but when I do it's ~$50. If I can get some like minded friends together this year maybe this will be an option:

Also keep in mind there is no crime saying Prime or Choice on a meat label. Unless it's got a USDA shield on it with Prime, it's probably not real USDA Prime meat.

CostCo has the shield. Other places I'm not too sure. I usually buy my meats at CostCo nowadays. Quality is much better than any chain market.

Bern's also offers a 6 oz filet. However; Bern's is like the butcher's steakhouse, they will cut almost anything your way which is cool.

Puck's restaurants IMHO are glorified tourist traps.

Getting scarey, agreeing with Alkemyst again, he he.

+1 to Bern's
