ALDI in USA ???? Where do you find it????
I thought you can find Aldi only in Europe. I come from Germany and they have a lot Aldi there (like Acme in USA).
You can't find in Germany a lot hotdeals (maybe 1-2 times in a year), but Aldi has all 6 month a Aldi/Medion PC sale. Those PCs are after a few hours sold out.

Last time it was a 1.6 (non-Northwood) P4 with all other components all pretty much the same as now for $699., now it's $799...and I'm wondering about the new P4chip in this machine, Northwood??

Their food sucks...maybe this will be better...looks like a good deal...although nothing about a warranty or what not.

Looks like a decent computer...although it looks like it was cheaply custom built...and you could throw together a computer of that quality or better for about 650 or so.

The computer also comes with a 17" monitor, Windows XP, Nero, other software and a 12 month warranty. You could not build that computer easily for $799. The front ports (including firewire), 24X CDRW, and DVD make it nice.

I just bought a DELL -- otherwise I would be all over this one.

As for Aldi's food -- great value and guaranteed. If you don't like it take it back for a refund.

To clarify a few things:

For $799, you do NOT get the monitor, but you DO get everything else (software, etc). They're also offering a 17" Medion monitor for $99.

As for warranty: If you look at the specs page, it's pretty clear at the bottom. One year service, and it appears to be in-home service.

I have to give them credit for using some very high quality components. This is not a cheapo system. They've put lots of good stuff in there.

I actually like a lot of the food at ALDI, and some of the prices are up to 1/2 that of Walmart. Bque chicken wings, battered Salmon, frozen seafood, and chicken, fruits and vegetables, yum, yum. I've found several brands that I had never heard of before, that I ended up liking better than some big name brands for a LOT less money. I don't like their Bonanza chips though. I only started shopping there this year, wished I started shopping there long before now!

I like my local ALDI. I can be in and out there quicker than it takes me to walk from the parking lot just to get to the door at Walmart.

The best part about Aldi is that I live in Michigan but close enough to Indiana that I can shop at Aldi there. They have pop for $0.18/can and it has the Michgan deposit printed on it which you don't have to pay in Indiana! So then I return the cans to a Michigan Aldi and Ta-Da pop for $0.08/can! And BTW I think their Root Beer rules!

So, is this a good deal? Seems like for all the stuff you get, it's hard to resist.

I have been planning on building my own system, but have never done it before. I might just chicken out because I think this medion computer will save me headaches and money.

Was going to build: Epox 8hka+, xp 1700, geforce3 ti 200, dvd, floppy, 60 GB hard drive from seagate, 256MB DDR 2100 ram, and possibly AL case, enermax 350 PS, and use on-board sound. However, that's going to run about 900-1000 bucks.

What should I do? :)

I laugh at all of you that say it sucks, it is el cheapo, crap, etc. but you give no reasons. I could probably take 80% of their product and place it side by side with name brand food unmarked, and you couldn't tell the difference. I will admit all their food is not top quality, and I don't buy it all. But pretzels, cookies, bread, milk, canned veggies and fruit, and most of their frozen food has no difference of taste. I find it funny that people think it has to say keebler or rold gold on it for it to be good. Most of those people don't have the preverbial pot or window, but like to act like they do.

I admire some not so wealthy people that shop there instead of acting like they have to keep up with the jones', even though they live on foodstamps.

applause to gump47371 :)

I checked out a few Aldi's in my area between yesterday and today, and no pc shows on their specials sheet (like before), or poster in the window for this week (18th on). Last look at the website didn't show it either. I'm wondering how you got this info on the Aldi pc for the 18th? Clue us?

MSH111,

Here (Greenville, NC) it came in the Sunday paper as an insert. It clearly states "coming Monday, March 18th. Come early! Limited quantities" The kicker is you have to use "cash or debit cards only!" That will cut a lot of people out of the deal.

In Winston-Salem NC there has been a huge sign hanging inside and a box of hand-out detailing the computer. It seems like a great deal....

I even have one 1/2 mile from my work. If I hadn't bought a new Dell last month I would be all over the Aldi deal!

I got in on this deal last time (got lucky...a manager stashed one for a friend that backed out). Used that handy firewire port to copy all of the data from my old PC in a matter of minutes.

I even called tech support (hey, it was a moment of weakness!) and was on and off the phone w/ them in like 2 minutes(no voice menu hell either). The CD that is labeled as the restore CD is actually just an XP CD. The intervideo CD is the one that has the full restore stuff on it. The errors for the restore software are all in German, which is why I needed the help.

They keep the drivers on their website well updated too (I tend to get it off of Windows Update instead, since that's easier).

Edit:
The ad is up on their website: http://www.aldifoods.com/pr0318_pc.htm

Looks like a different software bundle (I have intervideo DVD stuff, new one has cyberlink)

Edit#2:
One other thing I should mention. I couldn't figure out how to get the DVD software to output via the S-video link with my machine. Composite out worked just fine. I figure that's some stupid kind of copy protection (or I'm a moron).

While I normally would recommend to build your own system, at that price and components listed it's tough to beat. For all the flamers who know nothing better then whine, go to Dell or Gateway website and configure similar system, good luck.

When I last went to ALDI, I parked beside a nice BMW, LOL!

Guess rich people like saving money too.

Good luck on getting that computer tommorrow!
