Medical study figures are a joke...

I was just thinking - if you were to keep up on every damn study that is released on a weekly basis that says "Blah blah blah blah twice a day reduces your chance of cancer by 40%." "Avoiding blah blah blah blah cuts your risk of cancer by 79%"

If you combined all of these things you could probably reduce your risk of contracting any particular disease by 4280%, therefore almost giving you the power to GIVE THESE DISEASES TO OTHER PEOPLE AT WILL!!

This is not yet official, but confirmation may be following soon.

P.S. - Reading this thread with the lights in your room turned on cut your risk of heart cancer by 27%.

lol,

they all say can reduce your risk of x by y%,

anyway, together they don't add up like that, instead they just help each other out but go no higher than the highest claim

while it is true that pretty much any sentence that starts with 'studies show...' is complete bs, don't forget that multiple reduction-by-percentages multiply, not add.

Well, if you ever decide to spend your life trying to track a couple hundred people over a span of a couple decades to understand the effects of certain substances on the human body, please feel free to let us know. I'm sure someone wouldn't mind paying for the research. But until then, we gotta listen to studies which suggest that doing something may reduce some kind of chances of contracting a problem.

Besides, if it weren't for these useless studies, I'd be out of a job.

My post wasn't really meant to be serious, or intelligent... Rather, an observation similar to one that Dave Barry would make, or even Seinfeld did on his stand up skits on the beginning of each show...

Mine wasn't either. Although it certainly does sound like it now that I read it again.

I sympathize with your delirium. The AIDS community in San Francisco has been ignoring the studies and best advice about personal behavior habbits and are now dropping like flies. I understand it may be information overload, but much of it has genuine value and may save your life.

Somewhat similar to the HP gains provided by various air cleaners, catbacks exhaust tips and "Type R" stickers.
There should be thousands of 300-400HP Honda Civics cruising the streets of America.

Oh, THERE ARE!! It's just that none of the guys will ever drive onto a dyno and prove it.....it's all talk, stickers, and fart noises.

Haha. 3 out of every 4 people are impressed by statistics.

Person 1: Wow, really?
Person 2: I never knew!
Person 3: Thats amazing.
Person 4: Oh brother...

Hrm, so I guess that would mean that our chances of getting certain diseases is even less, if we lead a good lifestyle....

Just eliminate a few bad habits and you've reduced your risk by 30% x 50% x 34% x 56% ....... = 328024% less likely to get the disease!

According to this, we will all live forever, as long as we don't get hit by a car.

I am going to give the next person who posts here a brain tumor because that's how safe from diseases I am ;) Of course, you may be even safer, and we'll have to fight, or maybe trade diseases.
