For a few years now I have noticed by body temperature is always below average. Using an ear reading it is usually around 96 in the morning, 97 in the after noon, and 96.5 in the evening. For oral readings it is about 0.5 to 1 degrees below this. I was talking to someone about this and they didn't think it was normal and that I should be telling my doctor about this?

Could this actually be anything to be concerned about?

There is a reason its called an average. That is why you need to establish a baseline measurement, so you know when you are outside of your norm.

So it is ok if my normal body temperature is 96.5 or 95.5 depending on if ear or mouth reading.

Never had a fever in your life? :p

That is an exception. When I am very ill I have seen temperatures as high as 99, so for me 99 must be a high grade fever.

Also my body temperature wasn't always this low, this is something that happen in the last 3 years.

I'm always in the 96-97 range. I also hate weather over ~80 degrees. Not sure if my lower body temp makes me that way.

I hate it too, my face alwasy feels very hot while the rest of my body always feels like it freezing and high temperatures are unbarable for my face.

I am very intolerant of heat and cold, I need the temperature to be 70 to 75 to be comfortable, any lower and body feels like will freeze to death, any warming face feels like it is on fire.

Could be one of the autoimmune deficiency diseases. I've had rheumatoid arthritis since I was a child (a LONG time ago) and one of the things associated with that is low body temperature.

Just sayin'. You're probably fine, though.

What you describe would probably not be considered "low" by most professionals, but, IANAD

My wife was temping her self daily when trying to get pregenant, HER average is a good 1.5-2 degrees below average.

It doesnt mean anything unless you have other symptoms. By itself it's just a normal variation

you're doing it wrong. stick it up your ass first, take a temp, then put it in your mouth and take a temp. this will give you what your "TRUE" body temperature is.

I called it low because it was lower than what wikipedia said is a normal range of 95.72 to 100.04. Mines 95-97.5. But I guess there is a difference between normal and low.

A lot of people don't realize that temperature like most things tends to follow a bell curve distribution. 98.6 just happens to be at the peak of a very narrow bell. Medically no one cares if you have anything below 101/2 or above 95(ish). When you fall out of there then we start to care.

Plus the ear temp is really not that great. Mouth is pretty bad too. Probably the most accurate you can get is rectal, which no one wants to do.

What is a better question and worth maybe investigating is if you are always cold. You might have some circulation issues and might have what is called Raynaud's Phenomenon where spasms in your small vessels cause poor perfusion to the extremities. Usually you have cold pale/blue/white fingers and toes.

I should also mention that if you are a chick, which I am doubting because well... this is ATOT. Body temp fluctuates significantly with ovulation and menstruation.

Enough that people can use body temp to help plan or optimize attempts at fertilization.

TV shows sort of mention it, with women calling their hub's to come over cause "they are ovulating". Well that is based on body temp.
